Blatty: Exorcist Mini-Series Talk is False

Author/screenwriter of The Exorcist, William Peter Blatty, has stepped forward to address the buzz of an Exorcist mini-series being in development.

The news broke last week, via Vulture, that Morgan Creek and Martha Marcy May Marlene director Sean Durkin was going to pen a new adaptation of Blatty’s novel.

Blatty tells Bleeding Cool that’s a load b.s. because, well, he owns the rights to the property and Morgan Creek doesn’t have the right to develop a show.

Further, “Friedkin and I have a new miniseries remake script that we hope will one day be picked up,” he tells the site.

Somewhere someone is in the wrong – either Vulture (who may have received false intelligence) or Morgan Creek, who perhaps think the rights belong to them and are anticipating some sort of rights battle.  Or maybe Blatty is wrong.  Who knows?

The proposed Exorcist series did not even have a network home yet, so we’re still a bit early out from anything actually happening.
