Everyone, Let’s Not Put Faith in This X-Files Talk

Gillian Anderson has hopes for 2012

Hurray for the Internet today. Everyone’s running off with some quotes from Gillian Anderson about a possible third film culled from The X-Files. The actress was interviewed by an Australian program and what she said has been chopped, misquoted and misconstrued.

Bleeding Cool ran the full quote from Anderson and here is what she said:

“We’re hoping to…that’s something that we’ve said from the beginning, that we’d be interested in doing it if it ever came up again. I know that there are some discussions about it, I have no idea at what stage. There might a script, or how interested Fox is in doing it. We’re all hoping that it’s something that might take place. But they better hurry. 2012, which is the perfect subject matter is coming up quickly.”

2008’s The X-Files: I Want to Believe wasn’t exactly a smash hit, would Fox put faith in another sequel? The studio has had a moderately good year, critically, with X-Men: First Class and, at the box office, with Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Would the studio swing backwards to try and revive The X-Files? Bottom line: I wouldn’t get my hopes up.

If a new film is planned for a 2012 release, we’ll be hearing more about it in the coming months, as they would need to start shooting soon to get it ready.
