Smith for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies? Nope.

Another director rumored to take control

Update: Sorry, folks. Lionsgate denies this. Oh, well.

Again, take this as rumor for now.

With Black Death, Christopher Smith is one of my favorite directors working today and I eagerly await to see what he does next. Well, it just might be Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

Mike White recently dropped out. David O. Russell bowed out before him. Lionsgate is now looking for someone to sit at the helm and Quiet Earth’s scooper says the studio is eyeballing Smith.

This rumor rides on Russell speaking out about the real reason he departed the project (it was said to be “scheduling difficulties”). He told the Wall Street Journal it was due to budget disputes. Lionsgate was coming in lower budget-wise than what Russell felt he needed to work with.

If true, Smith could be a prime fit. He’s got one period piece under his belt and he knows how to stretch a dollar. If he does indeed get the job, we’ll let you know.
