The Oscars: Wolfman a Contender for Best Make-Up

See who the big hairy guy is in the running with

I’ve usually scoffed at the Oscar nominations for Best Makeup over the last few years. Some genre films with incredible work get sorely overlooked and the award would usually go to a minimal makeup job for some period piece.

This year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has done some fans of The Wolfman remake proud. Rick Baker is a contender for an official nomination for his makeup on Bencio Del Toro, among other gags in that film.

Let me re-emphasize, he’s a contender for a nomination.

On January 22, Academy members will have to select three nominees from seven films vying for the nom. Wolfman is one film, the others are Alice in Wonderland, Barney’s Version, The Fighter, Jonah Hex (wha…?), True Grit and The Way Back.

The final three will be announced on January 25 at 8:30 AM EST/ 5:30 AM PST…and then we’ll see who won on Oscar night.

Baker was the first artist to receive the Best Makeup award from the Academy for his work on An American Werewolf in London.
