Universal Needs a New Release Date for The Thing

Prequel bumped from April release

Update: Okay, so a Uni rep says the film is not ready yet and they’re eager to get Fast Five, the Fast & Furious sequel, into the April slot.

Bizarre. It appears Universal’s The Thing is no longer an April 29, 2011 release.

The prequel, directed by Matthijs van Heijningen, has been pulled from that debut date and is now floating in the ether waiting for a new date. Universal is apparently looking at the calendar trying to figure that out.

Strange that this comes not too long after a trailer debut at the New York City Comic-Con. A preview that was bootlegged online but has not officially hit the scene in crystal clarity. Does Universal need more time to fine tune the picture? Did a test screening go awry? Who knows… Scream 4, which is slated to open two weeks prior to the film’s April 29 release, didn’t appear to pose a threat.

We’ll keep you posted.
