Official: Beckinsale is Back for Underworld 4

All you needs to know about the next entry

The fourth entry in the Underworld franchise has officially snared Kate Beckinsale once again.

The actress will reprise her role as Selene, the Death Dealer, in Underworld 4. John Hlavin penned the script, however, J. Michael Straczynski (Changeling, World War Z) was brought in for revisions.

Screens Gems and Lake Shore are presently seeking a director. Lakeshore Entertainment’s Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi, and series co-creator Len Wiseman (director of the first two installments) are producing.

Casting is underway for a young woman to play Selene’s daughter (!) which means the fourth entry will indeed be a follow-up to Underworld: Evolution. Cameras are expected to roll next March in Vancouver.

The last chapter, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, opened in 2009 to $20 million and took in nearly $100 million worldwide. Look for the fourth film in theaters in January of 2012.
