Freddy Tops at the Box Office

Sequel talk has begun

Platinum Dunes and New Line’s reboot of the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise topped the box office this weekend, scaring up an estimated $32.2 million.

Krueger has to enjoy his time in the sun because next week he’ll be on the defense with Iron Man 2 flying into theaters May 7.

Nightmare couldn’t top Platinum’s last slasher outing, Friday the 13th, which grossed $40 million opening weekend before plummeting at the box office. Will Nightmare have legs in its second weekend?

In related news, producer Brad Fuller told his Twitter followers that a sequel to Nightmare was already in the works. As you’ve read here at Shock before, new Krueger, Jackie Earle Haley, is signed for three films.
