Courtney Ford Talks Joining Dexter Cast

Was ready to leave the biz

One welcome addition in the premiere episode for Dexter‘s recently launched 4th season was actress Courtney Ford, who plays Christine Hill, the ambitious reporter working with Detective Quinn (played by Desmond Harrington) to score some of Miami Metro’s inside intel.

And ironically enough, the actress reveals she was just about to give up on show business when she got cast in the hit Showtime series.

“The truth is, I was quitting,” Ford told Variety. “I’d been doing this for 10 years, and I’d done some indie films, and guest-starred a bunch, and tested for so many pilots.” (Among those indie films was last year’s Alien Raiders)

However, she went in to read for the new season of Dexter and to her surprise snagged the prominent role of Christine Hill, who’s slated to appear in several of this season’s episodes. “It didn’t make any sense,” she says. “But it changed the trajectory of my whole life.”

Ford explains how she grew up around the movie industry. “All of my family is involved in the business in some respect. My mom produced music videos in the ’80s. I have an uncle that’s a sound man. My little sister and I grew up on soundstages. We’d end up where they were doing ‘Pee-wee’s Big Adventure’ or ‘Beetlejuice’ and go and poke and play around in there. It was kind of like growing up in the circus.”

Not to mention her step brother is Fringe writer Roberto Orci and her husband is Brandon Routh from Superman Returns and the upcoming Dead Of Night.

Tune in Sunday nights on Showtime to see more of Ford in the new season of Dexter. And check out two clips from this next week’s episode “Remains To Be Seen” from our previous news post right here.

Dexter stars Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Carpenter, Julie Benz, James Remar, David Zayas, Keith Carradine, Lauren Vélez, C.S. Lee, Desmond Harrington and Courtney Ford. John Lithgow plays the “Trinity” killer in Season 4.
