Update: Plan 9 Remake Misses Target, In the Works

Watch the teaser trailer now!

Update: You can now watch the teaser trailer below! Decent start. I’ll admit, it doesn’t look as cheap as I expected. There’s some zombie mayhem, a nod to the original…and a floating “thing.” What separates this from any of the undead fare we’ve seen in the last five years remains to be seen.

Darkstone Entertainment puzzled the genre community last year when it announced a redo of Plan 9 from Outer Space, Ed Wood’s infamous cinematic turkey.

Joe Johnson was spearheading this effort with an eye to tell a “serious-minded” story under the title Plan 9. It was also slated to hit us on September 9 of this year.

Darkstone doesn’t have a film, but they have promised us a teaser trailer which is hitting on that date.

“We are now shooting on super 35mm including the teaser and plan to shoot the film itself in April of 2010,” says a Darkstone rep. “We hoped to have principle photography of the film finished by last March but we were able to increase our budget and move from shooting on super 16mm to super 35mm by waiting. However, to make sure we still have something for the anniversary of the original film’s release in 1959 we shot this teaser trailer, which will give the world a better idea of the style and direction we are going with our remake.”
