Eyegore Awards Takes a New Name for ’09

Universal’s annual horror show

The Eyegore Awards for Achievement in Horror is one of those events ShockTillYouDrop.com looks forward to attending every year. It brings together folks in the biz and it’s always followed by a romp through Universal Studios Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights.

This year, the event will morph into the Chiller-Eyegore Awards, as Universal Studios Hollywood partners with Chiller to create an expanded awards ceremony that will be broadcast to horror fans nationwide.

The seventh Eyegore Awards, (now, the Chiller-Eyegore Awards) will take place on Friday, October 2nd at 7 pm, coinciding with the opening night of Universal Studios Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights. An edited broadcast of the ceremony will air on Chiller later in October, with an airdate to be determined.

Previous Eyegore recipients have included actors, performers and filmmakers who have made major achievements to the horror genre, including Alice Cooper, Patricia Arquette, Jennifer Tilly, Janet Leigh, Joss Whedon, Rob Zombie, Karen Black, Corey Feldman, Julie Benz, Shawnee Smith, Clive Barker, Roger Corman, Sheri Moon Zombie, Tobe Hooper and Bill Moseley.

Chiller and Universal Studios Hollywood are also partnering to recognize the nation’s top short-form filmmaking horror genre talent with the “Halloween Horror Nights-Chiller Scary Good Film Competition,” offering filmmakers an opportunity to have their scariest short film rewarded with a broadcast on Chiller of their work, a $1,000 cash prize and a trip for two to the October 2nd opening night of Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood.
