Twisted, Bousman Moving Ahead on Mother’s Day

Remake officially gets the greenlight

Twisted Pictures, The Genre Company Rat Entertainment and LightTower Entertainment are coming together to produce “the new horror franchise” Mother’s Day.

This should come as no surprise, really. We tipped you off as far back as last October that producers Mark Burg, Oren Koules and Carl Mazzocone were circling the property. They’ll join Genre Co’s Richard Saperstein and Brian Witten. Brett Ratner and Jay Stern will produce for Rat Entertainment.

And on the directing-side of things: Darren Bousman (Repo! The Genetic Opera). The film is a loose remake of Charles Kaufman’s 1980 Troma Films cult horror classic Mother’s Day and follows a family of villains, led by a smart, manipulative and sadistic mother, who return to the house where they grew up and terrorize the new owners and their guests. Scott Milam penned the script.

When can you expect the film? Around Mother’s Day 2010, naturally.
