Get ready to enlist in exorcism school
The box office success of The Haunting in Connecticut, a supernatural tale rooted in reportedly real events, may have some studios dusting off similarly-themed scripts they have sitting on the shelf.
One that we never thought we’d hear about again, Last Rite, is on the move at Contrafilm. Producers Beau Flynn, Tripp Vinson and Christy Fletcher have secured Mikael Hafstrom to direct this fact-based flick scripted by Michael Petroni.
Hafstrom last directed the Stephen King adaptation 1408.
When the rights were first picked up, the film was original called “The Rite” – the title of the nonfiction book by Matt Baglio upon which it is based. Rite will tell the story of a young man who joins a seminary and is soon recruited into the Vatican’s newly formed Exorcism School. There, he confronts the demonic and discovers his true faith by facing the devil.
