Producer comments on latest rumor
Update: Producer Brad Fuller called in to tell us, “I can absolutely deny [this rumor]. We have not chosen a Freddy Krueger we’re not even negotiating with anyone yet.”
With a director in the bag, the producers of A Nightmare on Elm Street are now turning their attention to filling Freddy Krueger’s shoes. According to Latino Review’s tipster, the front runner right now is actor Jackie Earle Haley (Little Children).
I’ve been stating here on Shock that Haley would be my ideal choice since Robert Englund is not returning to reprise the role. And there have been plenty of other great suggestions bandied about on various message boards. Besides being a terrific actor, he’s just got “that look.” (No offense, Mr. Haley.)
He’ll be seen at Rorschach next month in Watchmen and is co-starring in Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island.
