Matthias Hoene has set up a new British zom-com entitled Cockneys vs. Zombies at Velvet Octopus, the same company behind S. Darko (the Donnie Darko sequel).
Lucus Roeche’s script tells of two small time crooks carrying one million in stolen cash and fighting for survival in London after a zombie outbreak. Tamer Hassan (Wrong Turn 3) is the first actor locked to star.
Hoene helped launch the resurrection of Hammer Films when he directed the online web series Beyond the Rave. CvsZ will reunite him with Rave producer James Harris.
“What I love about the CvsZ concept is that it takes two established British genres: the gangster film and the horror film and blends them together into something that is more of an action/gangster film than a straight zombie film,” Hoene says. “In the vein of Evil Dead II and Braindead, it’ll be grittier and scarier than Shaun Of The Dead and more colorful and fun than 28 Weeks Later. It’s Football Factory with zombies. The film is scary, darkly comic, witty and anarchic.”
