China’s Mummy Ban Lifted

Hollywood trades drum up drama

Ya’ll can breathe a sigh of relief, folks. China has given the “okay” to play The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor after a lil’ drama. Last Friday, Variety reported Chinese censors were requesting the studio make unspecified cuts to Rob Cohen’s film (details).

ShockTillYouDrop.com spoke to Cohen yesterday to inform us this was untrue (of course) and Universal’s overseas distributor, Edko Films, had already received a certificate to play the film in China. “We called Variety to clear this up, but they never took down the story,” Cohen said.

All is well now, explains Variety in their latest update: [Edko Films’ Bill] Kong said the changes demanded by Chinese authorities were so minor that they scarcely amounted to a cut.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor opens here in the States on August 1st and likely at the end of August in China.
