CBS Films Options Beastly Novel

From young adult author Alex Finn

Alex Finn’s young adult novel “Beastly” has been optioned by CBS Films. Story concerns Kyle Kingsbury, a New York City teacher hit by student with one whammy of a spell that turns him into a fanged monster. (Without having read the book, we’d venture to guess the story is a riff on “Beauty and the Beast.”) Because of the WGA strike, CBS execs can’t lock a writer to adapt the material. “Beastly” is part of CBS’ efforts to enter into the film biz and produce four to six flicks below the $50 million range. Originally, the company had hopes to get “Beastly” on screens at the end of ’08. Early ’09 is more likely now, says The Hollywood Reporter.
