On The Birds remake and Alice

We’re crying fowl…

The Denver Post recently reported actor Robert Knepper (the ill-named “T-bag” from “Prison Break”) was starring in Platinum Dunes’ remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds. But inside sources at Dunes tell us the producers haven’t even met with him, furthermore, due to the WGA strike (script tweaks are in order) the project is in a holding pattern.

And, is American McGee’s Alice finally moving forward? The big screen adaptation of EA’s popular vid game has a tendency to resurface and get everyone fired up. Now, The Hollywood North Report is saying shooting will begin soon in Langley, BC with actress Sarah Michelle Gellar in the titular role and Marcus Nispel at the helm. The producers are aiming for a July ’08 release.

Let’s step back and look at this for a second. Nispel was just signed to direct Platinum Dunes’ Friday the 13th redo. A principal photography start on that film is rumored to be late winter (February or thereabouts). Unless Nispel is cloning himself, it’s going to be one project or the other. So, is Nispel still attached to Alice or is the latest news on McGee’s horror-fantasy just a load of bunk?
