Friday the 13th in 2009

Opening sequence details revealed?

ShockTillYouDrop.com received word that Platinum Dunes’ Friday the 13th staked a release date: February 13, 2009. The next Friday the 13th of that year arrives in March, then in November. Targeting a Valentine’s Day weekend may be a wise move. Additionally, it’ll give the production team a year to complete the film (shooting begins shortly after 2008 rolls around).

Dunes has previously claimed winter/spring release dates – they made a handsome profit when The Amityville Horror opened in April of 2005. On the other hand, The Hitcher hit a massive speedbump when it was released in January of this year. But to compare these films to the might that is Jason Voorhees is silly. He’s gonna make some dough, undoubtedly. I’m just happy that Dunes isn’t rushing to make a Halloween 2008 release.

Over at CHUD.com, it seems they got the jump on how the new “Friday” film will open and tie into Jason’s rich history, dispensing with any needless exposition. If you want to drown in spoilers – click here.
