In 1978 a young genre auteur by the name of John Carpenter made his mark in a decade flourishing with Hollywood horror rebels. A nubile Jamie Lee Curtis gave new definition to the word “wholesome.” PJ Soles showed us something we all liked…very much. And a new suburban nightmare was born in the name of Michael Myers.

Everyone remembers the first time they’ve seen John Carpenter’s Halloween and, in anticipation of Rob Zombie’s Halloween, we’ve asked a handful of filmmakers to share with us their Halloween experience and explain how it may have shaped their own definition of fear in film.
