Godzilla Next Battle in 3-D

Foe named, Smog Monster writer attached…

Early development funds are fueling Kerner Productions’ efforts to bring Godzilla back to the big screen. Screw that Roland Emmerich creation. We’re talkin’ the original Big G – back and bad. Sort of.

Kerner, Digital Motion and Toho Company are at work on a Godzilla 3-D feature that will drag the ol’ lizard out of retirement after his supposed “last” stint in Godzilla: Final Wars. He’ll be getting a facelift via “cutting edge motion capture and 3-D CGI animation to bring a more fluid and realistic energy to Godzilla.” All of the details on the project can be found here.

Keith Melton will begin directing the English language film sometime in February of 2008. And although a title is not given at Kerner’s site, the IMDB is calling it Godzilla vs. Deathla.

What warms this writer’s heart is to see the presence of screenwriter Yoshimitsu Banno who also penned the lovably tacky Godzilla vs. The Smog Monster. Eiichi Asada (Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S.) is returning on FX duties.

Melton, who was captain of 1999’s Pirates: 3-D Show, snatched up a cinematographer with some experience. Peter Anderson will shoot – he also lensed Universal’s T2 3-D: Battle Across Time and Las Vegas’ Star Trek: The Experience – Borg Invasion 4-D.
