UPDATED: 1982 Remembered at L.A. Fest

Guest list added!

How well do you remember 1982? My memory…a late-night drive to a nearby movie theater to see Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. I was only seven and the thing that bugged me out the most were the ear slugs Khan had used to manipulate minds! Yowza!

The programmers at the American Cinematheque and Geek Monthly magazine obviously have fond memories of that year as well. Together they’re using the Aero Theater (1328 Montana Avenue, Santa Monica, CA) for a fest called “1982: The Greatest Geek Year on Film” running June 15 – 17 (Friday to Sunday). Get ready to cram a whole lot of nostalgia into that cranium of yours, ’cause here’s what’s playing horror-wise:

On Friday beginning at 7:30pm you’ve got John Carpenter’s The Thing playing on the same bill as Paul Schrader’s Cat People. Saturday night is a double-bill of Poltergeist and Creepshow (again, beginning at 7:30pm). The Dark Crystal, Tron and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan are also playing throughout the weekend, for more details and showtimes click here. Advance tickets are available at Fandango.

Update: We’ve just received word cinematographer Dean Cundey, camera operator Raymond Stella and visual effects supervisor Tom Burman will discuss The Thing following its screening. Other cast and crew members are pending. And, Poltergeist will preceed a Q & A with co-star James Karen and screenwriter Michael Grais.
