Suspiria Remake Alive and Well

So…what else is new?

As Dario Argento finishes up on Mother of Tears, First Sun – an Italian production company – is poised to revisit the film that kick-started Argento’s “three mothers” trilogy: Suspiria.

“We intend to create a concept that will encompass cinema, video games, fashion and music and that revives the original for those who did not experience it,” says director Luca Guadagnino who is joined by First Sun producers Carlo Antonelli, Marco Morabito and Massimilano Violante. “The Gothic resurgence is very strong around the world at the moment…and we feel that a new version of ‘Suspiria’ will fit very well.”

Suspiria is being conceived as an English-language film.

This announcement comes just as the ’77 original celebrates its 30th anniversary with a special screening at the Cannes Film Fest. Mind you, it’s not the first time we’ve heard of Suspiria remake news (seriously, are we at all surprised?) – Dimension Films once showed interest. Then there was word of an anime interpretation of actress Jessica Harper’s experiences in a ballet school run by witches.
