L.A. Film Fest Horror Entries

Gore, Daughters and more!

Film Independent’s Los Angeles Film Festival (official site) has announced their summer lineup and there’s no skimping on the horror this year. The fest runs from June 21st to July 1st, spreading out through various participating theaters in the area.

As part of the “Dark Wave” series (“edgy films from around the world”), Jeremy Kasten’s Wizard of Gore is making its world premiere. That’s great news for grue fanatics who have been curious about this Crispin Glover-starring remake of H.G. Lewis’ carnage-filled cult classic. Joining “Gore” are Ti West’s Trigger Man and Pavel Ruminov’s Russian spookshow Dead Daughters.

The fest’s closing night entry will be Danny Boyle’s Sunshine, a sci-fi thriller starring Cillian Murphy.

On the retro tip, 20 Million Miles to Earth, featuring the expert creature work of Ray Harryhausen, is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a special screening. And under the “L.A. Destroys Itself” series you’ll find Earthquake, John Carpenter’s Escape from L.A., Miracle Mile, Night of the Comet (a free screening!) and the archetypal ’50s atomic film Them!. Stay tuned for plenty of coverage as we near the fest’s run. Click the above link for more details regarding showtimes and ticket info!
