E3 2014: Trailers and Announcements from the Sony PlayStation Presentation

Sony’s E3 PlayStation press conference lasted a full two hours and was packed with new trailer debuts and announcements. Here’s a recap of everything that took place.

Before the press conference even started, Sony announced Killzone Shadow Fall Intercept, an online cooperative expansion for Killzone Shadow Fall. Up to four players are placed on an elite VSA team operating behind enemy lines on a mission to intercept and relay Helghast military transmissions.

First out of the gate in the actual presentation was Destiny, which Sony presented with the following trailer.

They announced that the Destiny Beta is coming to PlayStation 4 on July 17. Starting this Thursday, June 12, PlayStation 4 owners will be able to play the Destiny first-look alpha as well. Also, Sony announced a glacier white “Destiny PS4 Bundle” will be available on September 9.

Next up, we got a tease and a trailer for The Order: 1886. The February 20, 2015 release introduces players to a unique vision of Victorian-Era London where Man uses advanced technology to battle a powerful and ancient foe. As Galahad, a member of an elite order of Knights, join a centuries-old war that will determine the course of history forever.



Sony then introduced Entwined, a tale about a bird and a fish that are in love but can never be together. You can guide them both simultaneously over the course of nine unique lifetimes on a journey to unite their souls.

Coming in August to the PlayStation Store is inFAMOUS First Light. Locked up in a prison for super powered humans, Fetch Walker is forced to relive tragedies from her past. Unravel her dark secret in Seattle while battling to escape snowy Curdon Cay and seek vengeance against those who wronged her.

To a great reaction from the crowd, Sony revealed LittleBigPlanet 3. The company’s franchise is back this November with a new cast of playable plush characters in the biggest handcrafted adventure yet. The game includes backward compatibility for existing user creations in LBP and LBP2.

From renowned Japanese developer FromSoftware comes PlayStation 4 exclusive Bloodborne. Face your fears as you search for answers in the ancient city of Yharnam, now cursed with a strange endemic illness spreading through the streets like wildfire. Danger, death and madness lurk around every corner of this dark and horrific world, and you must discover its darkest secrets in order to survive.

We then got the gameplay premiere for Ubisoft’s Far Cry 4 and the announcement that, if you buy it on a PS4 or PS3, you can invite your friends to play on PSN even if they don’t have the game!

Next game another great trailer from Deep Silver for Dead Island 2, which is headed to the Golden State in Spring 2015.

Sony then quickly announced that The Last of Us is infecting Diablo III with Clickers, Lurkers, and Infected.

We also got a new multiplayer reveal for EA and Visceral Games’ Battlefield Hardline.

It was then announced that Sony has a new partnership with Disney Infinity that includes an exclusive Disney Infinity 2 collector’s edition for PS3 and PS4 where the Incredible Hulk will only be available at launch on PlayStation.

Also, partnerships with both Devolver Digital and Paradox Interactive revealed the exclusive console debuts of franchises like Broforce, Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number, Not a Hero, Titan Souls, The Talos Principle, and the sequel to the multi-million selling PC game, Magicka 2.

Other partnerships announced include Grim Fandango remastered exclusively for both PS4 and PS Vita, Let it Die exclusively for PS4 by creator Suda 51, the console debut of Giant Squid Studios’ ABZÛ on PS4, and a demo of No Man’s Sky by Hello Games that will launch first on consoles on PS4.







SCEA President & CEO Shawn Layden then announced that YouTube is coming to PlayStation 4 later this year. You’ll be able to share your gameplay videos straight to YouTube with a tap of the Share button.

Also, 25 free to play games headed to PS4 this year include Planetside 2, Kingdom Under Fire 2, Loadout, My Singing Monsters and more.

They announced that PlayStation Now (PS Now) will become available in the continental United States and parts of Canada this summer. Starting July 31, SCEA will introduce an open beta where gamers located in supported areas will be able to rent over a hundred PS3 titles. The beta launch lineup includes such games as MGSV: Ground Zeroes, God of War Ascension, Ultra Street Fighter IV, and more.

PlayStation TV (PS TV) was also revealed for the North American market. For $99, players will be able to download select PS Vita games, PSP games and PlayStation games from PS One classic through the PlayStation Store, stream select PS3 games to the device via PS Now, and play PS4 games from a PS4 system in their home over local Wifi through Remote Play. Select PS Vita games will also be playable on PS TV via PS Vita cards. A bundle including DualShock 3 is also available for $139.

Next, it was Mortal Kombat X‘s turn! Check out the new gameplay trailer below.

Brian Michael Bendis, executive producer of “Powers,” then unveiled on stage the first details of the PlayStation original content series, which will be available in the United States this December with every PSN user in the United States receiving the first episode for free. The entire series will be available for free to all U.S. PlayStation Plus members.

The remastered edition of The Last of Us is coming to the PlayStation 4 on July 29. Check out the new trailer below, but beware of spoilers.

The new trailer for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was next!

Rockstar Games and Sony also revealed that Grand Theft Auto V will be available for the PlayStation 4 this fall.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham Knight will include exclusive “Scarecrow Nightmare Missions” when it hits PlayStation 4 in 2015. The reveal came as part of the new “Batmobile Battle Mode Gameplay” trailer, which you can watch below.

And last, but certainly not least, was Naughty Dog’s highly-anticipated new game in the “Uncharted” series. It was announced announced that the game will be titled Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and that it is coming to the PlayStation 4 in 2015. It’s described as follows:

“Several years after his last adventure, retired fortune hunter, Nathan Drake, is forced back into the world of thieves. With the stakes much more personal, Drake embarks on a globe-trotting journey in pursuit of a historical conspiracy behind a fabled pirate treasure. His greatest adventure will test his physical limits, his resolve, and ultimately what he’s willing to sacrifice to save the ones he loves.”
