ComingSoon.net has confirmed that Screen Gems has optioned the film rights to Devil May Cry, Capcom’s popular video game series. The adaptation will be written by Kyle Ward.
The game franchise, originally intended as a spinoff of “Resident Evil” (the adaptations of which have also been released by Screen Gems), centers on Dante, a man attempting to avenge the death of his mother by eliminating demons.
Devil May Cry is a series of 13 titles which have sold over 10 million copies worldwide. This success has led to the creation of comic books, an anime series and action figures all based on the game, as well as the series latest title DmC Devil May Cry which is being developed now.
Ward has written the screenplays for several upcoming projects, including Fiasco Heights.
