Comic-Con: Halo: The Master Chief Collection Panel Recap

Game studio 343 Industries previewed the new “Halo: The Master Chief Collection” in a Friday morning panel at Comic-Con in San Diego that confirmed players will be able to run campaign mode starting in Halo 1 and play straight through to the end of Halo 4.

Coming in November, the new “Master Chief Collection” will also allow players to chose which game-specific multi-player mode they would like to experience. The collection includes over 100 maps for multiplayer, according to the developer. Another interesting feature of the new collection is ‘flashback’ mode, where a player will be able to toggle between the remastered graphics of the updated games and the graphics of the original games. On Xbox One, the toggle is instantaneous. For 360, it is more of a fade in/fade out transition.

Developers have created an all-new user interface for “The Master Chief Collection” that will allow gamers to jump into which ever “Halo” game they want… into any mission, which are all unlocked, they want.

The panel was also treated to new stills and a Making Of… video from Blur Studio, which was tasked to update the cinematics for the new collection and remastered Halo 2. The video showed comparisons of some original scenes, and implementation of new motion capture, modeling, facial characteristics and animation techniques to update the same scenes. The studio re-concepted and refreshed every character and game asset. Characters shown included an updated Tartarus, Sergeant Johnson, Keyes, Cortana, and, of course, Master Chief.
