Now that Lucasfilm has signed J.J. Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Trek) to return to direct the upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX, fans are wondering how the sequel trilogy — and possibly the entire Star Wars Saga as we know it — will wrap up. During a New York Comic Con interview for Pacific Rim Uprising, ComingSoon.net had the chance to ask Finn himself, John Boyega, what he thinks about Abrams doing Episode IX, and his answer was surprisingly revealing!
“I think what’s fantastic is it feels like it’s coming back full circle,” Boyega said of Abrams’ return. “I don’t know nothing about the script, the story. I don’t know where Finn’s going, I don’t know where Rey is going, but definitely I feel this is the war to end all wars in this movie. I’m interested to know how he will handle that. I’m asking so many questions and I haven’t had a chance to kinda sit down and write J.J. a message just to say congratulations and I’m stoked. My fixation now is that he needs to get some SLEEP and GEAR UP because we’re doing another one of these movies, mate! But I think he’s gonna do a great job, as always. He’s J.J.”
While its too early to say definitively if Finn will make it through December’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, it sure sounds like he’s coming back for IX. In using the WWI phrase “The War to End All Wars,” he also hints that the trajectory it is heading towards may be a definitive end to the Skywalker Saga in a final massive battle for control of the galaxy.

Domhnall Gleeson previously gave us his own thoughts on J.J. Abrams coming back into the mix for the movie, which is slated to begin production in June of 2018.
“Just as a fan I’m excited for J.J. to do ‘IX’ because he did such a good job on ‘VII,'” Gleeson told us. “So I’ll look forward to seeing it or being in it, depending on whichever it is. There ya go, talk about hedging your bets!”
Abrams will direct the film and co-write the script with Chris Terrio (Justice League, Argo). Star Wars: Episode IX will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Abrams, Bad Robot, and Lucasfilm. Previously set for a May 24, 2019 release date, the film will now arrive on December 20, 2019.
The characters from Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Episode IX can next be seen in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, opening in theaters on December 15. Written and directed by Rian Johnson (Brick, Looper), the film continues the storylines introduced in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, welcoming back cast members Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, the late Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, Daisy Ridley as Rey, John Boyega as Finn, Lupita Nyong’o as Maz Kanata, Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron, Domhnall Gleeson as Hux, Anthony Daniels as C-3PO, Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma, and Andy Serkis as Supreme Leader Snoke. New cast members will include Academy Award winner Benicio Del Toro, Academy Award nominee Laura Dern, and newcomer Kelly Marie Tran as Rose.
