"Shelob WILL NOT BE in The Two Towers. Apparently, they've expanded the Frodo-Sam-Gollum-Faramir stuff quite a bit, and as such Shelob has been kicked to the beginning of ROTK"
Dar Horizons
Well that stinks, I was really looking forward to that. Guess we'll have to wait a bit longer...

You know I don't know why they would do that since Frodo being captured by the orcs is such a great cliffhanger. Maybe it's just a rumor.
I hope it's only a rumor, the ending of Two Towers was the part that got to me the most when I read the books, and I'm really looking foreward to seeing it on the big screen. Though I'll probably start crying during the whole Sam thinking Frodo is dead scene I did when I read the books.

I would think that Jackson would see this opportunity and take it. It would make the most sense. That is the perfect cliffhanger ending, which would really make a lot of people want to watch the last one.

I know I might be a big sob, but I found several places in all three books which made me cry, and I'm not ashamed to say it....you shouldn't either JBond :p :D

I knew as soon as I made that previous post that someone would say "Hey Bond, it's not bad to cry!"
I never said crying was BAD, I just didn't cry during the book. Although I HAVE cried during some movies and books before!
Now I’m curious to know which movies/books that made JBond cry it’s very rare that guys cry during movies, I’ve only seen my dad cry one time and that was when we saw “Saving private Ryan”.
Personally I’ve never cried as much to anything as I did when I read Lord Of the Rings.

What!?! No, no, no! When I was reading the trilogy, I finished The Two Towers at 2 in the morning, and said alloud "Oh my GOD!", ran downstairs, grabbed The Return of the King, and read until the sun came up. They have use it! It's the perfet cliffhanger. Plus I want to see Shelob!

Yeah the ending and the Shelob thing were probably the two places that touched me the most, but there were also a lot of other scenes that got to me. I don't know why, there was just something all through these books that made me really sad, but in a good way...I can't really explain it.

I know exactly what you mean! It's such a good story, and you really fall in love with these character, so their drama and strife really gets to you. I was reading the appendices at the end of The Return of the King, and I felt the same way when I was reading about Arwen and Aragorn, and what happens to the fellowship afterwards.

The Shelob stuff didn't get me all teary eyed. For me, it was just the ending and the stuff about Arwen and Aragorn.
But I do want it at the end of the Two Towers. It was always the perfect ending to me. The one that they had to use. I was just thinking about it last week. They can change around the end to FOTR all they want, but this one's perfect.

I agree it's simply too perfect to mess with. I can hardly think of a better cliff-hanger.

I cried when I read "Rama Revealed", the last book of the Rama series by Arthur C. Clarke.

Where else could Peter Jackson possibly end The Two Towers? In the rest of the Frodo, Sam, and Gollum section of the book, and eventually movie, the hatred between Sam and Gollum, and Gollum's consuming desire for the ring builds up to Shelob's Lair. I think it would be a bad decision to leave the uneducated movie audience with a seemingly pacified Gollum. It's a twist you shouldn't start a movie with, which is why Boromir died in the first movie, but the second book.

As far as I am concerned, I agree with Xenofax, that it is bad to start a movie off with a big shocker. Gollum suddenly turning out to be evil would be a bit of a rocky step to jump from. However, opening the Return of the King with Shelob would be very beneficial to the movie, as it is a great bang to start the movie with. Most movies open with a nice little attention grabbing action scene, or clever intro that really siezes you. Shelob would be ideal for that position. It is debatable however, as to whether the Gollum suprise would negate that benefit or not.
However, there is always the chance that Peter Jackson could have Gollum betray them a little early, and Frodo and Sam just continue on the same path, as they do not know any other ways to go.

The other posibility is that they will hint at Gollum being evil and that he will betray Sam and Frodo. Then come the third movie, it isn't that much of a shock.
It really wasn't that much of a suprise to me when I was reading the books, though, either. I was really just waiting for Gollum to betray Sam and Frodo. Personally, I believe that it would be a great way to start the third movie.

I guess that would work, but I loved the way it was set up in the book. The ending is cinematic gold. If it wasn't 2 am in the morning when I read it I would have screamed aloud. Instead I dropped my jaw to the floor and start reading ROTK right away. It's perfect, I don't understand why Jackson would want to change it. I agree with you on Gollum. I was waiting for the moment when he was going to betray them, and was a little surprised it didn't come sooner. Jackson did an amazing job with FOTR and I will trust his judgement, but this just doesn't make sense.

HOpefully it's just a rumor...i was sooo shocked <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> when i saw the topic...anyone here who had read the book should know that the part abt same frodo and faramir is sort of...boring...although it's important yes but...i really wanna watch the fight between sam and shelob....(was it sam by the way?)

I'm sorry to say it's not a rumor. Peter Jackson flat out said it at a well documented event at a Barnes & Noble store in New York City.
Here are the accounts of several spectators:

And it was indeed Sam who squared off agaist Shelob.

I believe that Shelob is going to come in at the begining of Return of the King.

There is also a rumor that the scouring of the Shire is going to be left out, which would make sense with all of the other changes. But when you think about it, it would make more sense for a movie to actually end with the defeating of the big enemy. I still think that the movies will be great.

I have a strong belief that Shelob will be at the End of TTT, it just wouldn't work quite right to have that happen at the very beginning of the last movie. it would ruin the suspense (to those who haven't read the book), and as said before. it's no good to open the movie (RotK0) with a major shock.

I wonder how PJ will cut back and forth between Frodo being chased by Shelob and the little battle between Sam and Gollum? This could be quite tricksy for the editing team.
I think Frodo should be chased around a corner (out of camera view) and Sam is about to follow but then is grabbed from behind by Gollum. We stay with this little fight until Sam hits Gollum over the back with his saucepan (Faramir's staff in the book), then Sam runs round the corner to see Shelob cowering over Frodo's entangled body lying on the ground.
Any alternate suggestions?

I think you mean 19 months. ;) Anyhow, I wanted to ask a question about the kind of editing in Shelob's Lair, and consequently I searched the forum for a Shelob topic - and this was the only result!
I know how irritated some people get when new topics are started... :D
