Horror films that should be made...

There are a few films that I'd really like to see made that - to date - haven't been, some are idling in development hell, others have never come close to seeing the light of day to my knowledge, some are just updates of old films that I'd like to see made.

This is my list, what about yours?

At the Mountains of Madness - H.P.Lovecraft, notoriously difficult to translate to the screen, lots of period setting and interdimensional horrors - everyone usually cops-out and sets the adaptations in the present day :(. ATMOM is set in the Antarctic in the 1920's, a group of explorers discover the remains of an earlier expedition and the horrors they unearthed. Guilermo Del torro (Blade2, Chronos, Devils Backbone) is due to bring this to the big screen sometime in the next couple of years, I can't wait (now if only he can get H.R.Giger to design....).

Call of Cthulhu - more Lovecraft, bigger beastie :D

Shadow over Innsmouth - LOTS of Lovecraft sea beasties here - (notice a bit of a theme here? ;) )

The Creature from the Black Lagoon - loved the original, would love to see a remake, there are rumours of it happening, but it's been a looong time.

Dawn of the Dead - remake of the classic, would need Romero in the directors seat.

Alien 5 - (ok, so this one straddles the horror/scifi gap), waiting to see a film without Ripley (sorry, her time has come I think), set it on the home world of the Aliens or the original 'Space Jockey', make it dark, nightmarish and let Giger do what he does best - make Starship Troopers look like the Tellie Tubbies.

Resident Evil 2 - City, Lickers, Nemesis and LOADS of zombies please!

Any decent 'Haunted House' film that DOESN'T feel the need to assail us with CGI or similar - (Jan De Bont hang your head in shame :mad: )

That's about all I can think of for now, but I know there's others waiting in the wings, I'll update the list when anything occurs to me.

I heard there going also going to make or someone does have the right Creature from the Black Lagoon and was going to make an updated version of it.

Personally Call of Cthulhu should get made.

Have any of you read the Briam Lumley Necroscope series. Those should be made into movies. Hell, you can have a whole television series about Harry Keogh himself.

Yeah, I have read a bit of Lumley's Necroscope - wasn't really so impressed with what I read, I thought it was a bit too 'precise' about the whole Cthulhu mythos.

The Mythos works better for me when things are left more to the imagination, Lumley sort of had everything disected, labeled and available as the T.shirt - there wasn't enough genuine mystery for my liking.

But I guess they would make a good series for the 21st century movie circuit - most people like their horrors up-front in hi-res CGI these days (Producers especially :rolleyes: ), rather than kept to the shadows and hinted at. :(

Maybe I just need to read a bit more of him?

The original was by far the best 'house' movie in my opinion, and the best dark comedy of all time. However, it lacked ghosts.

The remake did a pretty good job and lived up to its title, right up until the climatic finale, in which, in my opinion, the CGI powered ghost totally killed the movie. Adding ghosts was certainly a nice twist, but the physical representation of it just... wasn't... good. Great cast though, and oh my god, did Geoffrey Rush look like Vincent Price or what...

A new version would be great if they added ghosts, retained the dark comedy feel of the previous two versions, but also didn't make the ghost look like a Bugs Bunny cartoon reject.

Oh yeah, just remembered a couple more , both based on games but there you go, that's the influence that computer games are having nowadays

Silent Hill - I seem to remember reading something about a film proposal for this - can't remember where.

Evil Dead 4 - I remember the idea being batted about that Evil dead 4 could be 'DOOM THE MOVIE' - which when you think about the alternative (non-supermarket) ending and the whole chainsaw/shotgun/demons invading our world thing - it could work ya know :) - Groovy.

Movie title:Scarecrow

premise-In a rural town,a week before Halloween,strange things start happening,involving a local legend,The Harvester.Pretty much everyone blows it off as a prank,but since a group of friends is interested,the ask a farmer that lives on the edge of town,who's an expert on The Harvester.He tells the group that amyone that disbelieves in the Harvester will be killed by an unknown killer.When the town gets word of this,they blow it off.Some kids even egg the farmer's house.That's when the killings start,It starts with the kids who egg the house,and moves on to anyone that disbelieves the legend of The Harvester.As Halloween,"the night when the killer and the Harvester become unstopable"draws nearer;the group most avoid death and solve these murders,which practicaly loook like a attack by a farmer's scarecrow...

In the Mouth of Madness, I believe was a good attempt at adapting H.P. Lovecraft to the screen. I loved it, in fact. But I really can't wait for Guilermo Del torro's contribution to the genre. :)

BTW, a scarecrow movie whoses character sounds alot likes yours has already been made.

Damn that always happens.I think up a cool idea,find something like it,and see that it's crap.IMO,my"scarecrow" would be much more sinister,and even traditional,looking.and it wouldn't be just a gore fest.It would be on a more suspensful level,like Halloween.

I think they should make the Vampire Lestat into a movie. I mean Interview with the Vampire was great but Queen of the Damned sucked cause they skipped to much and tried to pull it off combining 2 stories.
