but didn't because either you weren't born yet or too young or just didn't see it for some reason.
My number 1 movie is definitely Aliens. What I would give to have seen that in the theater. My uncle was able to see it in the theater and he still says it was one of his most favorite cinematic experiences ever. Said the appearance of the queen was jaw dropping at the time. My other choices would be...
Jaws
Empire Strikes Back
Predator
Robocop

Lately a lot of my favorite films have actually been played in theatres so I've been able to see them. Still I need to see Pulp Fiction, BTTF 1 and 2, Alien and Aliens along with Jurassic Park.

I got to see the Alien rerelease but not Aliens, so thats one of two I wanted to see. I also recently missed Back to the Future showing at a local theater, that would have been cool...

2001 Space Odyssey
JAWS
Aliens
Back to the Future
Pulp Fiction
The Wizard of Oz
Touch of Evil
The Godfather 1, 2, & 3
I'm sure there's more I'd love to see on the big screen... I wish studios would rerelease classic films from 10-15 years ago rather than making crappy remakes and sequels.

The Lion King  :(
The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring
The Fountain
Altered States, I was 9 when it came out and I'm sure I wouldn't have a clue what was going on. Crazy ass movie.

Back To The Future
I saw the 2nd and 3rd in theatres but never saw the 1st one since I was 4 when it came out. I only saw two movies (Care Bears Movie,Cocoon) in theatres at that time.
Star Wars IV-VI
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Ghostbusters
Princess Bride - Saw it on HBO and Showtime many times after it came out though.
Big Trouble In Little China - Saw it on Showtime after it came out.
R rated movies in my lifetime that came out before I hit the big 1-7 in 1997:
Pulp Fiction
T2 - Saw it a year later on laserdisc on Super Bowl day at the house of a work friend of my dad.
Robocop
Goodfellas
most Friday The 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street movies
Creepshow - Kind of the Grindhouse of it's day if you think about it. ;)
all Lethal Weapons but 4 since I saw the fourth one in theatres when I was 17
Batman - PG13 but my mom thought I was just too young (8 at the time) for it.
Die Hard movies
Godfather trilogy
Raging Bull
The Untouchables
Scarface
Dog Day Afternoon
all those Eddie Murphy comedies of the 80s
Fast Times At Ridgemont High

Definitely Star Wars. But it would have to have been 1977 when no one saw the awesomeness coming.
Also would've been nice to see Raiders, Ghostbusters, Jurassic Park, and Toy Story as well.

It puzzles me too, i have no idea why i never went to see it. Guess i was just going through a period of not going to the cinema...i wasn't caught up by any hype and Batman & Robin had had the same effect on me that it had on the rest of the world so my attitude at the time must've been: *shrug*

I've seen a lot of my favorite films on the big screen in theaters that play classic films. The only one I'm really looking for is Raiders of the Lost Ark, and I've missed the opportunity three different times due to work, sick, forgetfulness, etc. I have seen a few like Lawrence of Arabia, Unforgiven, Gone with the Wind, The Good the Bad and the Ugly, just off the top of my head.

I agree. Probably my most favorite movie experience EVER, now that I think about it. Epic movie. Its too bad some people here didn't get to experience it.
Anyways, forgot to include Predator and Predator 2 in my list.

T2 was one of the more enjoyable times I've had at the theater also. I was 12 at the time and just got sucked in.
My dad always talks about seeing Star Wars at Grauman's on opening weekend. That wouldn't have sucked too bad.

T2 is one of the oldest movies I remember seeing. I guess I was 9 at the time. I remember it was the most expensive movie at the time and it showed. I still remember being jaw-dropped at the scene where Arnold takes out the cops with the machine gun and stuff.

My parents went and saw T2 on their wedding anniversary and Robin Hood(Kevin Costner). Thats kind of sad when ya think about it.

The whole movie was filled with jaw dropping scenes. T-1000 walking through the prison door, Arnold shooting its head in half at the elevator, driving the semi off the street during the chase, ect. This movie had alot of hype before its release and it sure lived up to it. Jurassic Park is the only other movie that had the same effect on me in a theater.

2001
Jaws
Psycho
Godfather I and II
I have seen most of these on a projection but to be able to see them when they came out would be great, especially for the crowds reaction to Jaws.

The Fountain, Moulin Rogue!, Children of Men, and Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. Also, in a way, Fight Club might've been interesting.

i always wanted to see fight club in a theater... it just seems like a more intimate experience there, whereas on my couch it's a lot easier to tune movies out.

The two best vampire films of the '80's. "Fright Night" and "Lair of the White Worm." I've now seen both films. "Fright Night" on TV and "Lair of the White Worm" on dvd w/ director's commentary, but I'd have liked to seen both films in a crowded theater, if only to see the audience's reaction.

Breakfast Club. It had just come out in early 1985 and I went to the movies with my father and brother and for some strange reason my father let me pick the film we would watch and so I overruled my brother and instead of watching one of the best movies of the 80's we watched to my eternal shame...Ghoulies.

They're going to show the first three Bond movies at a theater where I live this month. So I can cross Goldfinger off of my list.

Being 46, I have been blessed to have seen almost all of the above when they came out. I am missing out on many of the newer flicks because I don't have time to see them all.
Jaws and Aliens on opening weekend would be just as intense as you seeing The Dark Knight. It was a different time and we were not in sensory overload.
I would have loved to have seen the classics on opening day. Casablanca, African Queen, Topper, Arsenic and Old Lace, and Gunga Din would be mine.
