In future Superman movies, do you think the film creators should get rid of all the religious tones and all the Superman=Jesus stuff? I personally think they should. It was getting a little out of hand in SR and recently on Smallville they took it WAY too far. I kind of hope they put in a little more Sci Fi and less religion.

I think they should keep ambitious aspirations, but at the same time they should avoid heavy handedness. That's pretty much the same advice I'd give to any dramatic film.

Meh, Jesus allegories are very common.

When? Refresh my memory please, as I don't remember anything like that.

And no, they shouldn't lose the religious tones. That's part of the character's mythology.

Superman's an allegory of Jesus? Remind me again where in the bible Jesus put the beat-down on Doomsday?

You see SR was good. But the problem with film was that it was really trying to beat the viewer over the head that Superman=Jesus. Then in Smallville, a certain group is hailing Supe as a god and doing weird religious stuff. Sometimes even sacrifices. This whole god/Jesus thing is getting out of hand. A little more Sci Fi and less Bible stuff would be nice. When I read the comics, I never got this idea that Superman=Jesus. The comics were very Sci Fi and terrific. The movies and TV show are trying WAY TOO hard to make it biblical. I mean what happened? Are the writers for Superman TV and movies radical religious people or something?

Never noticed (not enough to think it was done purposefully and forcefully). Maybe you're reading into it a bit too deeply.

Are you referring to Veritas? Because they weren't hailing Clark as a god, all they knew was that an alien would come from space and have superpowers. There were no Jesus parables in that, and there hasn't been one since Season 1 (when Clark was tied up on the posts in the pilot).

There's parallels to Jesus' story in Superman's origins, but everything else Bryan Singer got out of the way in "Superman Returns" with the whole "death and resurrection" thing. He really can't do much else with the allegories at this point, so you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

Unless, in the next movie, Superman travels back in time and helps Moses free the slaves.

I would pay to see this.

I think Superman should go back in time to defeat Jessie Owens in the 1984 Olympics.

A savior sent to earth, it's not very subtle, never was

Jesus: Raised a carpenter's son
Supe: Raised a farmer's son

Jesus: Finds out he's the son of God
Supe: Finds out he's the last son of Krypton

Jesus: Disappears for many years, doing who-knows-what
Supe: Disappears for many years, training in his Fortress of Solitude

Jesus: Returns to save mankind with his miracles and wisdom
Supe: Returns in tights to save mankind with his fists and laser eyes

I think the similarities end there, unless you count Superman's beating, sacrifice and resurrection at the end of "Returns." Then it ends.

Supe: Banished three aliens into a pane of glass for all eternity
Jesus: " "

Actually, it was his father Jor-El that banished them for all eternity (unless there's something in the comics I don't know about.)

Hey... wait a minute...

Jesus: His father banished Lucifer to Hell for all eternity.

So now we just have to wait for the second coming when Jesus accidentally frees Satan with a nuclear explosion and they duke it out over the city.

Meh, Jesus allegories are very common.

Which is also unfair to all the "godlike" people who came before him and did the same thing. Apparently.

Jesus is such a copycat.

You see there are similarities but that doesn't mean they should go ahead and keep pounding the viewer into believing that Superman is some god or reincarnation of Christ. You see they don't have to make Superman like this but for some reason they're choosing into making him into a reincarnation of Jesus. But come on, he's a freakin alien and chooses to use his abilities to help the world he lives in. He's not a god or some holy ghost. And like I said, they took it to an extreme. If I wanted to see something religious, I'd watch Jesus of Nazareth.

SR as good as it was took the religion thing way too far and even made Superman act like Jesus getting crucified. It really needs to stop. Hopefully Man of Steel puts Superman back on track and away from christianity.

The Bible talks about him as a kid, and then skips over a huge part of his life. Next thing we know, he's in his thirties and spreading miracles.

"sigh"......

He's also a Moses allegory as well. A bab y that is put in a basket (rocket) to escape death. Grows up to be the hero that frees his people....

Did not a Jew create Superman as a way of expressing a Messiah that would free Jewish persecusion during the time of his invention to the whole Jewish persecusion throughout history.

I donn't think he is a Jesus figure but a Messiah figure instead.

Oh no. I think I got it wrong. They're making him out to be god. Superman is god and his son is being made out to be Jesus. Look:

Superman(powerful entity being) gets human female pregnant. Human female gets married to human male. Human female gives birth to half super being, half human child. Powerful entity being( Superman) watches his son grow up from afar.

Superman= god
Jason= jesus
Lois and Richard= Mary and Joseph

:( . Don't be surprised if Jason sacrifices himself for the sins of humanity and Superman wrecks havoc like an angry god. :(
