I just got done reading the book, and it was excellent, one of the best works of fiction I've ever read. I highly recommend it... It's a survival story, about a father and son. Takes place in a post-apocalyptic US. It's a stark and realistic vision of what it would be like, if nothing was left. It's not sensationalized or glamorized, like say Mad Max or something, it's much more grim. At the same time, it's a heartwarming and emotional story about surviving, doing what it takes to live to see another day.

Now it's being made into a movie, with a badass cast to boot. Viggo Mortenson (as the father - couldn't have been better), Robert Duvall, Guy Pearce, Charlize Theron, Michael K. Williams (Omar, from The Wire)... It's direced by John Hillcoat, Australian director who did The Proposition, which is critically acclaimed.
The book is by Cormac McCarthy, the guy who wrote "No Country For Old Men", which (movie aside) is also an exceptional, best selling, novel.
Needless to say, the adaptation of NCFOM by the Coen brothers was one of their best films. McCarthy's books are such potent and detailed material, that these directors and screenwriters admittedly are highly faithful to the stories. If any of you have read NCFOM, you would know.
It's scheduled for a wide-release on November 26, 2008... #1 on my must see list right now.
