View Full Version : Movie Director Battle Tournament.

This i like any of my tournaments. There must be a number one of the very best. Bare with me for not all great directors will be in the first tournament. So don't loose hope if a you view a stinker in your opinion. Its impossible to run all directors in 26 battles so there will be a continuing tournament kinda like the Hottest tournament.
I can assure there will be no Uwe Boll. That i promise.

Cameron is better, but the fact he still hasn't gotten his head out his ass from Titantic gets a vote for Scott from me.
Also I think it'd be good to post some of the movies they've made, as I'm sure you'll be getting into directors that are a little less known.

^^ Nope. "LOTR" weren't anything special. All those films had going for them were the visual effects, which were good, but those alone could not help dry dialogue, uninteresting storylines and characters, and entirely overbloated running times.
I mildly enjoyed "King Kong", but that movie had the same problems "LOTR" had. The movie kept ending and then would keep going. Again, the special effects were very well done but they eventually became tiresome and exhausting and it felt like they were there simply for the sake of stretching out the movie. A lot could have been cut from "King Kong", and it probably would have resulted in a better movie.
I'm probably going to get flamed for my opinion of Peter Jackson's films, but that's what I think.

I actually tried to get into the books like I tried to get into the movies, but I simply could not. IMO, there are better trilogies out there than "LOTR".

We can agree to dissagree for we will never agree on this subject. I vote for Gore Verbinski and it was very hard cause i am such a big Rings fan. I vote this way cause he braught back a dead genra. Jackson did to with teh fantsy epics but PIrate movies were even deader.

Are you serious?
I'm personally not a huge Jackson or Rings fan, and I think Kong should have been cut way down, but those Pirates movies are the definition of overlong. At least the Rings movies are based on very epic, detailed books, so there is an actual reason for them to be that length. The pirates movies are based a park ride (no less) and are all two and a half hours long.
If you want to vote for Verbinski because you like his movies better fine, but if you are gonna call out a director for making movies that are too long don't start by using Verbinski as your antithesis.

I really like Kevin Smith but I have to vote Brooks.
I dont think its fair though... Put up a legend against quite a young director. Not in the first round anyway...

Gibson doesn't have enough under his belt as a director really.
I'm going with Eastwood
Loved Space Cowboys, True Crime, Blood Work and Unforgiven
And I'm very eager to see his remake of The Changeling (2008).

This is very tough. If Gibson had more movies, it would be easier to decide...
I adore Braveheart but Eastwood has more quality work on his tail...and Unforgiven.
