A G.I. Joe movie can be done very easily. All you have to have is showing Cobra doing something huge and the Joint Chiefs/Defense depts. assembling the best of the military to form G.I. Joe. It could show how they select who will be Joe members and getting the team together. It doesn't need to show how Cobra comes to be. It needs to show the Joe team more than anything.

It could work. They just better not name one of the soldier's girlfriends 'Barbie'.

To be honest i think Thundercats, He-man and Voltron would have the better chance at success but if Len Wiseman directed it then i would see it. Remember the name for he did a great job with the Underworld movies and Live Free or Die Hard.

I never saw the cartoon but I know of no reason it couldn't work.

There's enough "commando team" movies anyway. If anything, they at least have a time-tested formula they can fall back on.

Thanks. It's a pretty basic formula, but that's all the basically need to do.

it really doesn't matter, though lol.
they're probably considering it as we speak.

consider it being considered. Especially after the success of Transformers.

Let's hope to the gods it doesn't take itself seriously. If Transformers gets flack for being too pro-America and pro-military, imagine what GI Joe would get. If approached at the right angle, it could be very good.

Who here would want it to be rated R? Because I would love to see a rated R GI Joe.

anyone remember this travesty:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/97/StreetFighterMoviePoster.jpg

believe it or not that was originally written to be G.I. Joe: The Movie, but the producers decided that Street Fighter would be a more hip toy to base it off.

i thought that was kinda cool in a d movie kinda sense, but no mortal kombat.

and as long as they have a "now i know... and knowing is half the battle" in the end ill be happy.

I think that movie killed Raul Julia. :(

G.I. Joe doesn't need to be rated R. What would be the point? It should be PG or PG-13 at the most.

Who cares if G.I. Joe is pro American or pro Military. It's friggin' G.I. Joe!!!!

You can't make GI Joe rated R. The is too much of a young fan base to make that rated R.

I can seeing it either being fun or stupid, and it would matter on story, writing and direction.

I think you can do a serious PG-13 G.I. Joe movie and not have it be cheesy. Go with a core team of Joes. Gen. Hawk, Duke, Flint, Snake-Eyes, Stalker, Road Block, Scarlett, Lady-Jaye and a few others. Have guys like Doc, Grunt and others make small cameos. Have the vehicles that we know and love like the Vamps, Dragonfly, Mauler Tank. Keep it grounded in a real world military feel with just a touch of futuristic. As for Cobra same thing goes. Cobra Commander, Destro, Baroness, Major Bludd, Storm Shadow and tons of Cobra Officers. Work the story that Cobra has been a myth for years. They are an urban legend, but the Military knows that they are real, but hasn't done anything because up until now Cobra hasn't been a threat. Secretly though they have been organizing a Spec. Ops team code named G.I. Joe and have been building new attack vehicles for the new team. We learn about how Hawk and Duke become team members and how they decide who gets picked to become the core team. We learn about Snake-Eyes being this major Black Ops commando and keep him all mysterious and not talking. There are hints throughout the movie about the connection between him and Storm Shadow. The world then finds out that Cobra is real and they try to take over the US and rule it in a dictatorship. Like I stated before Cobra does some major terrorist attack on the US and then the G.I. Joe team is activated. They make mention on why they have code names. They have them because they have family and there true names have to be kept classified to protect the families.
If this movie is to be taken seriously they have to go this route. They can have their actual costumes like they did in comics and put a real world military spin on them.

Things to avoid:
Lasers
BAT Troopers
Cobra-LA
Battle Force 2000
Cobra Commander being a whiny *****
The more far fetched characters and vehicles

I would love to be involved in the story development, but I have no experience writing anything of this magnitude, but I have read, watched and played with the G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero since 1983, so I feel I know a good bit about the characters and how they should be done. Sadly in the end it will probably be nothing like the G.I. Joe I know and love.

That's as likely as a Halo movie being directed by Guillermo Del Toro, Jar Jar.

You can't make a toy line for kids into an R rated picture. It financial suicide.

Kable24: Your absolutely right!

I'd like to write an appeal to Hasbro about how G.I.Joe movie should be done. A example synopsis of a G.I.Joe movie's storyline could be attached to that appeal.

I know: that's never going to get any attention by Hasbro but I could even say I tried.

I would love to see an R rated GI Joe film, but put it in the hands of the right director, and you can have an intense PG-13 film. The film should NOT be PG. I don'e even think you can show someone firing a gun in a PG film. I don't even think the cartoons, and surely the comics, could ever get a PG rating.

So I figure G.I. Joe is kind of a cartoon show like Transformers from the 80s, right?
Cause seriously, I don't know it and so does everyone else I know (and I grew up with shows like MASK, Transformers and such). I Guess there could be a problem with the worldwide BO, if its close to unknown outside of the US. Would be intersting to know if other non-americans are also not familiar with this show.

I think there's some retro-80s revival of kids tv shows. Transformers works, so why not GI Joe?

It's going to be very, very hard. Cobra launching attacks on US forces. Bombing runs, US attacks, ect... It sounds all too realistic to me. And though I wouldn't mind seeing how it might turn out, unless they change the outfit of Cobra from a Terror Cell to a regular villain, they might have a problem.

I think it will work. Transformers worked and the same producers are behind this one. I was a little wary when I first heard that Sommers was directing and that his goofy kind of humor might find it's way to this but as long as they remain faithful which I'm sure they will now that Hama is on board I think the tone will be right on.
The cast has me excited and I am sure I am far from alone on this one but ever since episode I when Maul was engaging the Jedi in the palace I thought "man, that's SnakeEyes!" so that's so cool they got him. There was a series that came out a few years back called Reloaded, I think and one issue went into Cobra Commanders origin some and that would be something to cover...I thought it very realistic. Before casting was taking shape and this project was first officially announced I was thinking what if(as a nod to the comic connection between Joe and Transformers) the took Duhamels character and introduced him to GI JOE recruiting him as Flint(would have to alter history some) maybe or another role...hey it's not too late..but yeah since I guess they're recruiting the best from all branches and he was involved in the transformer conflict....2009 can't come soon enough!
