For those really long 3 hour movies, do you think they should bring back the overture and entr'acte that was used long time ago?
I think they should. I think it would further add to the movie experience especially for those long epic movies like LotR.

No.

yes.
EDIT:It works and adds to the overall production as long as it is an appropriate movie and the score is good. Lawrence of Arabia is a classic example, and I think Kingdom of Heaven EE was better with the overture (along with the extra scenes, etc.).

I concur as well. Kingdom of Heaven EE was superior to the original in every way, and I always thought if one day I were to ever produce or direct a big budget epic, I'd put an overture and entracte in the theatrical release, again just to add to the effect. I'm not too sure LOTR would have benefited from those, I don't know why, maybe because they're more fantasy films, but I just don't think they would.

Well, they can't put them in front of movies anymore because that's reserved for commercials and previews - and after twenty minutes from when the movie's supposed to start, I don't think anyone's in the mood to sit and listen to an overture anymore.
The best place for an overture is simply during the credits.

It'll never, never happen:
1) Money, money Money. WIth 10-15 more minutes of music at the beginning, they will sell less tickets with fewer showings.
2) Most people, and I mean a lot of people, will say "....what the **** is this?". Remember, we're on a movie board, we appreciate film. Most people see movies to see the movie or to hope it gets them lucky with their date.

Plus the average movie goer these days can't seem to want to sit still for more then 2 hours.
You have to remeber that this was in time where going o the movies was still kinda of an event. It was like theater but on screen. Now days it more more commercial and everyone has "better" things to do with their time.
Still with the right movie it could be cool.

I think it won't happen either.

I always get lucky after a movie.
If you count masturbating in the car on the way home "lucky".

I consider it "lucky" if I am never within physical or visual reach of your car.

The days of the overture and the Entr'acte are over and gone just like the Drive in theatre and the soon to be extinct downtown single screen house theatres.

FYI, the type of presentation you're talking about is called a roadshow, you can read all about it in this wikipedia page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roadshow
