Papillon - I love this movie so so much. I'm slightly bias because it has my two favorite actors in it but the performances are outstanding especially McQueen'a scenes in solitary. A remarkable film in my opinion. I few people I know disagree but it's my favorite anyway. :)

Iron Giant - You are who you choose to be. I absolutly love this movie and could watch it day in and day out for the rest of my life.

For me its all about timelessness and rewatchability.

Honorable mentions - Dr. Strangelove, Maltese Falcon, The Matrix (original,) Pinnochio, and The Incredibles which will hopefully stand the test of time

The Matrix. This was a work of art on so many levels and really helped shape the direction of visual effects. Too bad they had to ruin it with two sequels that didn't come withing 5 lightyears of being as good as the original... IMHO.

A Walk to Remember...is that the one with Mandy Moore? That had a good song in it. Citizen Kane is...I love the cinematography of that movie. They were really well done and shot brilliantly. It was a good artistic film I guess...story is just...meh.

IanTheCool
12-09-2006, 01:38 AM
sigh. i just used citizen kane as an example. there are good old movies too, is my point. and yes, there are good new movies. great movies can come from any time really. my point is that many people wont even look at a film if its more than 20 years old, and will instead choose mediocre films from this generation, missing out on so many fantastic films.
i know, thats an old and pretentious arguement, and im sorry. ive said my say and will shut up now.

tiamat1990
12-09-2006, 02:28 AM
Well you're right...but majority of people rent films don't they? It's kind of hard to find good movies that are old because they know nothing about the past (nor do I but I hear about a few like Citizen Kane and West Side Story).

Plus people are visual whores so they won't watch black and white films. Eggs...

Me, I watch movies before 1970, both foreign and American. And I sort of feel like you're missing out if you don't. Some great directors that made almost all if not all of their films before 1970: Hitchcock, Ozu, Renoir, Dreyer, Ford, Mizoguchi, etc.

For my all-time favorite movie, I will have to go with a made-for-TV movie, The Decalogue, by Kieslowski.
