Good lord my mom was strict with what i could see, when i was under 13 i could ONLY watch G or PG. When i was really little i remember some movies she would not let me watch where, temple of doom ( cause of the heart scene) Beetlejuice (even though i saw it at the theater with my dad, once she found out the f word was in it, it was on the ban list) hmmm, everything really! She NEVER EVER EVER, let me watch R rated movies, EVER! I still give here grief on how strict she was. I didnt see my first R rated movie at the theater until i was, 17! Oh well, I guess its a good thing though, parents today let kids watch anything!

Yeah my parents basically followed that guideline. I though when I was 15 I could "persuade" them to let me some rated R movies. But not often. I could only watch Rated R movie at home until I was 17.
I do rember when Jurassic Park came out, I was 11, and I was hoping it would only be rated PG-13 becasue then I could "persuade", heh, my parents to let me see it. But no dice. My dad went to see it before hand and said it was too scary. So I had to wait until it came out on video.
I think that's when I really started getting excited about movies coming out though. Before it was a just a fun thing to do with the family. After that I started paying more attention to what was coming out and getting excited about the trailers I saw and everything.

My parents let me see pretty much whatever I want. Cause they know I'm not going to go do what I see in R rated films. I go see R rated movies with my mom all the time. My dad on the other hand, not so much. I'm glad that they aren't strict about it. Otherwise, my movie knowledge wouldn't be as broad as it is right now.

My parents are like iv3rdawg's parents, except they both took me to various R films when I was young.

Since I turned 13 I am allowed to watch everything in the house except for porn.
Unless of course its strictly lesbians, then its fine.

My mom was way more strict than my dad. The only Rs I saw with mom were tame R ratings that had just F words and non graphic violence in them like Rain Man,The Firm, and When Harry Met Sally... for example. I didn't go to my 1st R rating in a theater until 9th grade when I saw The Birdcage.
My dad,on the other hand when I visited him on weekends for a while at my uncle's, wasn't as strict. My uncle had Showtime and The Movie Channel so I saw some that had more than just F words like:
Casual Sex?
Beverly Hills Cop II
Shakedown
Bad Dreams - I saw the trailer for this 80s horror film recently on youtube or something and after that I can't understand why this didn't scare me.
Wisdom - Emilo Estevez's directorial debut before Bobby. ;)
Shoot to Kill
When Harry Met Sally...
At my dad's house on weekends I saw parts of some movies on Showtime in the early 90s like Total Recall,T2 and Hudson Hawk.

My parents weren't strict in the least, I remember seeing Terminator 2 in the theaters when I was 9. There were only TWO movies they stopped me from watching when I was younger: "Gorillas of the Mist" and "Clockwork Orange".

Why Gorillas in the Mist?

They didn't want me to see the graphic violence brought upon the gorillas.
I can watch John McClane kill people left and right at age 7, but apparently animals getting killed is too much. ;)

My parents were about as strict as normal parents, but my little cousin's parents are nuts. He's only in 2nd grade and his favorite movies are the Grudge, Saw, and Godzilla. He watches every horror flick like it's cartoons. The kid rarely has nightmares, so stay tuned to find out if he becomes a homicidal maniac.

My parents refused to let me watch R movies in the theaters, but had no problem with me renting them. I dunno, they do a lot of drugs.

Luckily my parents let me watch The Godfather and The Omen when I was like 11. Since then, I've been a movie junkie.

Not strict at all. My mom took me to go see Colors in the theaters when I was a week old.

Being that I am old... when I was a kid all we had was a black and white 13" TV with a knob on the top, that only got FIVE channels. A local chanel, and ABC, CBS, NBC and PBS. When my mom didn't want me watching something past 9pm, she'd just turn the TV off, and pull the knob off and pocket it, so that was that. I never got to see any R movies till I was an adult, and my mother really wasn't a big movie fan to begin with. She didn't see her first movie till she was 30 years of age, if that tells you anything. She is 80 now. I am different with my kids. I will take them to R movies, provided there is no sex in the movies. There are many excellent movies out there with an R movie, and violence and language don't bother me. My oldest is in a Christian College, I have another in High School, and one in Jr. High, and they've turned out pretty well despite being exposed to R movies here and there. I just think it all depends on the movie.
