View Full Version : First Films
As far back as you can remember, without it being cartoons, what were the first films that you recall seeing? To the best of your knowledge, what was your first movie memory at the theater?
Not positive, but I think the first movie I ever saw at the theater was Back to the Future. That was about the time my parents got a divorce, and I remember going with mom and then again with my dad.
My grandparents had HBO and Cinemax when I was little, and I remember watching movies there. Some of the ones I remember were Teen Wolf, Real Genius, Hamburger the Motion Picture, Star Wars, Howard the Duck, House, Cobra, The Wraith, ect.

Man, it bums me out that I just didn't care about movies when I was younger, because I wish I had an impressive "first theater" example, but I can't remember back too far. The best I got is "Dick Tracy (1990)". I don't remember it very well, but I clearly rember seeing "Terminator 2 (1991)".
As for the first movie I remember watching? No idea.

The first movies I remember, even though they were animated, were All Dogs Go To Heaven and Bambi, which I guess was a rerelease. I do remember though seeing a movie back in the day that I doubt anyone remembers called Cheetah, a Disney movie about......well, a cheetah.

I can't remember the exact movie I first saw in the theater, but one that I do clearly remember was The Naked Gun when I was about 7. The theater in town only had one screen and my family wanted to see No Holds Barred with Hulk Hogan(I was a big wrestling fan back then). Anyways, we got there during the last moments of the movie so we decided to see The Naked Gun and wait until the next screening of No Holds Barred in a couple of hours.
One thing I do remember clearly was everyone in the theater laughing so much during the Naked Gun, particularly during the scene where Drebin leaves his mic on during his restroom break. At that age, I didnt understand alot of the scenes during the movie but I clearly do now as an adult when I watch it again.

First movie I remember seeing tho it wasn`t the first was a Indian version of Rikki-Tikki-Tavi . First animated was either Bambi or Fantasia.
I was about 6 when I saw A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back for the first time. I also remember seeing Jaws 2 at a young age being scared out of my wits. How I managed to endure the movie was beyond me.

I know I watched the animated The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, The Last Unicorn, and Star Wars at home alot.
I do remember watching Jaws 2 when I was 5 and having a nightmare that night heh.

My first one in theatres was a cartoon and it was The Care Bears Movie when I was 4.
1st non animated and PG13=Cocoon - I was 4 at the time and saw it,natch, with my grandparents considering the theme of the movie. The Cable Guy was the 1st PG13 I saw in theatres without parent/guardian.
1st PG in theatres=It was either Who Framed Roger Rabbit or Willow when I was 7. My 1st PG overall was Roxanne on video at my aunt and uncle's house when I was 7. Space Jam was the 1st PG I saw in theatres without parent/guardian.
1st R in theatres=The Birdcage when I was in my freshman year of high school. Stand By Me was my first R movie when it was on video when I was 6 or 7. Good Will Hunting was the 1st R I saw without parent/guardian.

Don't feel bad, in 1969 I was 7 yrs old. First move I can remember was either "The gang who couldn't shoot straight" (which back in those days showed 30min of cartoon shorts before main feature. ) or "Across 11th street."
1st movie I saw at the drive-in was " The giant spider invasion"
