What about that is shocking?

You mean, aside the fact that (of those I've seen) Barnyard is an absolutely abysmal film and Cars, Ice Age2, Open Season and The Wild are distinclty average 'good looking but incredibly unorignal and forumulaic' animations, typical of so much CGI these days.

Monster House is head and shoulders above most of these IMO.

Seems like almost all the big animations that have been released this year have been nominated. Sometimes I wonder if in such years they should even include the best animated feature film if none are up to the standard. They've done it before in other catergories.

Looks like just compiled a list of all the animated films that came out, regardless of whether they were actually any good or not.

im pretty sure it will end up like this

Monster House(will win)
Over The Hedge
A Scanner Darkly
Happy Feet
Cars(pixar always gets nominated)

i think all that matters is that monster house wins. it damn well deserves it.

I get a lot of these "family" animated movies because I have a six year old son. I really liked Curious George. The animation was good, but relatively average. The story was really good and so was the soundtrack. I just saw Monster House and while I agree that the story was very unique and it was a good movie, I wouldn't call it a great movie. I'm going to pick up the Cars DVD and what I've seen and heard about it so far, I'm thinking this has to be the favorite for the Oscar.

I remember when they were first discussing whether to have a Best Animated Feature category, that they were worried there wouldn't be enough animated movies to select from. Now we have animated movies coming from everywhere. Luckily for this year's nominations, there isn't a Shrek to compete against. But next year...

The only good thing about Hoodwinked was the singing mountain goat with it's detachable horns. :D

Probably will be like last year with only 3 films making it onto the final nomination list. Heven't see anyone of those films, but I'd pick Cars to win.

Why on earth are people picking Cars as a possbile winner here!?!?

I absolutely love Pixar and most of their work stands head and shoulders above the competition, but Cars is without doubt their first flop. It certainly looks fantastic, but as a film it really is very mediocre. A big disappointment for me and it seems most of the reviewers at the time. I don't think it even deserves to be nominated, nor do most of the bland idntikit films in that list.

I definitely think Cars and Happy Feet will be nominated since there both big blockbuster hits. I'm really hoping that Monster House and A Scanner Darkly will make the top five, as well. MH and ASD were good quality films. Cars was fun but lacked heart. Happy Feet was just singing and dancing.
