Its because of this, I have lost hope in the human race. Can't we just have something science fiction or fantasy. Without being attacked by religious grups.

I'm gonna go pray to my Yoda doll now. :P

Ahhh, what christians will do for attention. Just look at this question they and their answer.

Q: I'm a professional graphic designer and you might get more people interested in your cause if you did a little more than draw on horns on your photos. It looks kind of stupid and amatuerish.

A: Normally the horns and tails don't show up in photos so we had to "draw" them to reveal their true colors.

People have to have something to talk about since the C-3PO card from Topps' 1978 Star Wars set scandal died down.

It depicted the droid with the appearance of an abnormally sized "Part"

Jason Krueger

It means, that some christians have nothing else to do, but complain about things and try to make those things look bad. But basically their making them look bad. To them if something has a bigger fanbase then the Bible, then its evil.

basically they have nothing better to do.

I have a hard time believing that people like this are serious. I remember when "The Two Towers" was in theatres, a christian fundamentalist group boycotted it because they said the title was a metaphor for "hobbit penises".

These people are ALWAYS looking for something to make a fuss about. The more popular it is, and the more absurd, the more attention they'll get, which is really all they're going for anyway.

I have always wondered that, and I even asked about it. "Well JRR Tolkien was a christian." But from watching all those special features about him on the special EE dvds it sounded like he was an atheist.

Same. I don't know anyone who would truly think that Yoda had some connection to the Devil.
And no offence taken.
Actually, "yoda" is a Hebrew word that means "seer" or "prognosticator".
I put it down to weird coincidence. Can't see Lucas going "Now, what's Hebrew for prognosticator? It'd make a great alien character name..."

No offense taken. You are right, there are overzealous Christians that over-react to just about anything. I once lent a Christian book on ufo's to a friend and his wife's friend saw the cover and freaked out, saying that they should return the book. What a ditz! Talk about judging a book by its cover!

Lucas, is also known for "borrowing" from other influences. I don't know if Lucas is part Jewish or not. Anakin could be a derivation of "Anakim", (the sons of Anak- Goliath and his brothers). Endor was a village where King Saul visited a witch (against Hebrew law). There's probably more, but I'm just giving examples.

Very weird stuff. But the Endor thing wasn't just Lucas. Endor was the Elves name for Middle Earth, or so I am led to believe.

that is just a strange coincidence.

The Lord of the Rings saga was written by Tolkien, who happened to be a Christian and obviously got it from the Bible also. Just because writers "borrow" things from real life, doesn't make it "coincidence". I don't know where those zealots get that whole "baphomet" the so-called goat= Yoda nonsense. Yoda is not a goat. He's from an alien race called Whills.

Fanible
05-31-2005, 01:19 PM
I wasn't aware we knew what Yoda's race was called. Even Lucas said "I don't even think I know what species he is or where he's from", and that it should remain a mystery.

I don't remember where, but I did read something about Yoda's teacher being called the "Orange Whill" and that in Return of the Sith (perhaps an early draft) that when Yoda returns to Coruscant and goes to the temple, he goes to retrieve the Book of the Whills.

Cloud Buster

This stuff about Yoda's race is BS. It's clearly not canonical, and as far as reading it in an "early draft" of ROTS, also BS. I don't believe for a second that an actualy "early draft" of the script was just floating around online for all to read. I'm certain there were several fake ones, however, also some constructed from all the known spoilers so they would look authentic, possibly even after the films release (all the differences being chocked up to "revisions"). Bottom line...NO.

The "Book" of the Whills was GL's original title for SW in 1977.

it was called The Star Wars as told in Journal of the Whills.

It was shortened for obvious reasons...

Uh...I recall the original title being "The Adventures of Luke Starkiller"...but there are so many titles and drafts the original SW went through, I think only GL himself could definitively say which is the "original".

Furthermore, I don't see how this tells us anything about Yoda's race. First off, I seriously doubt this script is available to the public -- at least not unaltered. Second....it was never produced, meaning it's not part of the story.

One of the drafts said the force is generated from a mythical object called the Kalibur Crystal. (Drafts very close to the shooting script called Alderaan "Organa Major", and Coruscant "Alderaan", among many other things.) So does that mean that in the SW universe this crystal is the controlling agent in the force? No, it doesn't even exist, because it was an abandoned concept.

The ROTS and comic were based on "early drafts". If you noticed, they altered some of events. For example, in the comic when Anakin and Obi Wan go to rescue Palpatine, they're confronted by droids and cut a hole in the floor and enter a chamber or tank filled with liquid fuel. This was not in the movie. By "early draft, I mean pre-movie version.

Look I know that these guys aren't exactly living the example or doing things in love, in fact they're going about it completely the wrong way, just as they did with Harry Potter and Spongebob, but do we really need another Christianity sucks thread everytime something like this happens. You're being completely intolerant of an entire belief system based on some people who are not even following the basics of the book their beliefs are based on. So they got it wrong, it doesn't mean hating Christians or calling them names is acceptable because of that. Im a Christian, they did the same thing to the Narnia books when they came out. "Oh C.S. Lewis isn't really a christian, those books are evil, because they have witches and magic." Its always going to be there, just let em' complain, theres no reason to hate all of us, just because some of us are annoying. If they would just read their Bibles, they might learn a thing or two and they wouldn't be out there anyway.

Actually, I think most of us have made the point of saying something along the lines of, "we know that not all Christians are like this..." so we're not exactly bashing the entire religion, now are we? In fact its the people in question that make the rest of the religion look bad. That being said, then yes..if we disagree with what they say, I think we should be able to call them on it. I don't think anyone here has bashed the entire religion as a whole.
