Has anybody seen the Holiday Special. I didn't even know about it until just recently. I heard it was so unbelievably bad, no one ever talks about it. I wonder if any of you know much about it. Was it a live action film, a cartoon, or both?

I have seen it. It really is unbelievably bad. In fact, its so bad, that even Lucas wishes it didn't exist. I think thats saying a lot. ;) It was mostly live action, but there was a cartoon in it.

Well, no "official" copies exist, but I'm sure if you're resourceful enough, you can find it somewhere on the web. I can't say for sure where though.

Not only does Lucas not like it, but I read a quote from him once saying that if he could, he would hunt down and destroy every last copy of the SW Holiday Special in existence.

the horror....the horror...the horror.
It's a shame the Seperatists didn't slaughter Chewbacca's family when they had the chance.

I just watched it. I want to throw up. Oh, that was awful.
Talk about low budget. When I found out it had Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, James Earl Jones, Peter Mayhew, etc. I thought "Well, it can't be TOO bad." They were absolutely right when they said what the story is about; Han and Chewie struggle against Imperial Forces to return to Chewie's family on Kashyyk for Life Day (a Wookie Holiday). The Imperial Forces keep them late. What they don't tell you is that rather than following the story of Han and Chewie, they follow the story of his family. Who in the right of mind makes a movie about waiting for an hour and a half?
Frizzo, did you see it when it aired on TV, or did you find it some other way?

I watched this thing when it aired on TV, and then again more recently on the internet. It's so bad, it's really hard to sit through it all, I don't care if it says Star Wars in the title and has the original cast. Painful stuff.

The only good part of this thing (besides when the end finally came around) was the inclusion of the Wilhelm Scream. Someone mentioned it in another one of these threads. I always noticed that a lot of movies included that cheesy scream, but I never knew it was the same recording.

Oh, I found it some other way. Yes, I was alive when it first aired, but I was only about 5 months old. So, even if my folks had watched it on TV, I certainly wouldn't have remembered it. Or perhaps I just blocked out that memory. ;) Maybe, being subjected to this piece of crap when I was so young, scarred me, and made me the man I am today. Its a possibility. ;)

Isn't there a live action ewok movie?

what about the Ewok Adventure movies that they aired on TV? I remember watching those as a kid and thinking "this sucks, but hey, it's star wars". Those were crappers too.

The song Carrie Fisher "sings" is based on the theme from Star Wars (1977).

I think it's pretty embarrasing that they made an entire movie with the original cast, and the only thing that is Star Wars canon is Boba Fett (who was likely already written into the ESB script by 1978).

he's actually in ANH. in the jabba scene

Not in 1977 he wasn't. There was no Jabba scene.
drjones
05-23-2005, 09:04 PM
Was that in the original footage, or was it one added into the scene? I saw the clip once when it was just a fat man dressed in furs, but that was a long time ago. I don't remember Boba Fett being there, or not being there.
flukeman

The original footage had the fat Scottish guy in furs, and I believe he was going to be replaced later, but they never got around to it or it didn't work well. I have the scene in my "From SW to Jedi: The Making of Saga", I can check it out. I don't remember Boba being there though.

I don't think he was in the scene originally. I'm sure Boba was added after the fact. Especially since you see him essentially turn and mug for the camera.

I believe Boba was added to the Jaba edit scene in A New Hope (the original footage of the guy in furs). He was in ROTJ in Jabba's palace as well, but they filmed additional footage of him flirting with the dancing girls for the SE.

Not sure if the complete version is actually floating about in cyberspace. I was so curious, a few months agp I finally paid $2 for a VHS from eBay. I'm working a several video projects right now, but maybe when I get some free time, I'll make a downloadable version of the whole thing.
