Kind of restricts what Episode 3's title could be- 'A.... Dark Time'? (reference to 'Empires' opening story-so-far crawl). 'A... Traitorous Ally'? 'A Jedi Betrayed'?

Hey, I've listened to your views on how great it is without moaning, why so defensive. I'm just totally annoyed that every film nowadays is aimed a purely kids. Phantom was just toy story with a few wooden actors. What's happened to old film values where entertainment came above technology and how many ropey computer graphics can you fit in a film because you know people will go and see it because of the hype.

Now as for AOTC. We'll see if it can beat out Empire.

For Episode 3 it has to have somethign to do with the Jedi falling/or being killed.

Because it sets up the premise for A NEW HOPE. So it has to end with a lot of despair. death of Mace Windu,and other jedis. That way there will be only 3 jedis left Yoda,Obi Wan,and Anakin/Vader.

That way it can coincide with Return of the Jedi.

So I think it will be called

Episode 3: Fall of the Jedi.


and then it ends with all the jedis being killed in the clone wars except for Yoda, and Obi Wan.

You know the first working title I heard for AOTC was "Rise of the Empire". Perhaps Lucas didn't use it because he's saving it for Ep III. Its a cool enough sounding name.

Funny you should bring up the Mask thing. I heard that all the names come from some old sci-fi series and Lucas picks them from that. All the names from previous episodes fall in that category and one name that is a possibility has to do with the word "Mask."

Does anyone else realize that Return of the Jedi doesn't refer to Luke but Anakin. Its the Return of Anakin, the Jedi/not the Sith. Luke didn't finish his training and went back to Yoda.

Personally, I'm not going to predict but I'm going with most of you in saying it will have to do with the fall of the Jedi or the rise of the Empire. The other two ideas I was thinking of would be either something about the forming of the Rebellion or the Birth of the Two Skywalkers.

But we'll just have to wait, won't we.

I stated this before, and my opinion is that he is going to go with something simple. If you look at the other titles, something like "Fall of the Jedi" or "Rise of the Sith" or something along those lines would probably be the next title. Think about it:

The Phantom Menace
A New Hope
(Both suggesting something hidden and unknown)

Attack of the Clones
Empire Strikes Back
(Both suggesting some sort of attack or offensive military movement)

Return of the Jedi
????????

But knowing George Lucas, he will go with something that none of us ever even thought of... :D :p

Well, you guys are ridiculous. The names don't have connotations to each other. They're just names that GL picked from old serials that he watched. He changes the names to fit his series. That's it. Besides, who cares what the name is? You don't get to pick it, so don't worry about it.
I think the name will be along the lines "Mask of Darkness," or something related. But that's my guess, and it's only a guess. I don't care what he calls the movie. I'll see it no matter what! I'm not gonna lose sleep over a movie title...
And just to clarify for everyone... "Return of the Jedi" refers to Anakin, not Luke Skywalker, because technically Luke isn't a Jedi in the film yet, only Anakin is a Jedi. So the name loosely means "Return of Anakin from the clutches of the dark side." Get it? Think about it. The freakin' saga is about Anakin, not Luke. So now all is cleared up, everyone that mulling over this stupid movie franchise can go to bed or get a job and start your lives together, as human beings, not clones from Kamino or Jedi Padawans... LOL!!!

Luke may not be a Jedi at the begining, but by the end he is. Therefore, Return of the Jedi does represent Luke because with him the Jedi have returned to the galaxy. If it were refering to Anakin, the title would have to be "Return of the Death of the Jedi.";)

I just wanted to get in on the possible titles of EPISODE III. I came up with the following:

STAR WARS EPISODE III: SHROUD OF THE SITH

This is how I came up with it: In AOTC, the final line in the movie is spoken by Yoda and he says "the shroud of the darkside has fallen, begun the clone war has."

I was first thinking EP III: THE SHROUD OF DARKNESS, but then I thought about it more and said no because in each of the prequel titles there has the name of a character or a type of character. For example:

EP I: THE PHANTOM MENACE - "PHANTOM MENACE was a type of charcter, Darth Maul was considered a "phantom Menace."

EP II: ATTACK OF THE CLONES - "CLONES." In ep 2 we had the clonetroopers.

EP III: SHROUD OF THE SITH - The ep 3 story will mostly revolve around the fall of Anakin and the rise of the sith.

Although this title is not really my favorite, my favorite is REVENGE OF THE SITH. Yeah it's kind of predictable, but so what. I like the way it sounds.

When I went to the AOTC press preview screening, they gave out booklets to the audience with info about the characters and the movie.
There was a section on each film, showing the poster art and a brief summary of the films.
For episode 3, it said something along the lines of; the bridging chapter of the saga, connecting both generations of the Skywalker family, where we will see the end of the old republic, and the triumph of the Sith.

Triumph Of The Sith . Considering how the film will be dark and end on a downer, Lucas might give it a title that at least sounds a little positive.

it basically just describes what happens in the movie

if you think about it, lucas has followed the same formula for each of the coresponding PT and OT movies

TPM - ANH - both refer to a person

AOTC - ESB - both refer to what happens at the end of the film

ROJ - ? - ROJ refers to what the main character will achieve so maybe, Rise of the empire, or fall of the empire makes the best sense

So, scrap the "Fall of The Jedi," "Rise of The Empire," "Revenge of The Sith," etc, etc, titles. I doubt Lucas would be THAT predictable (he never used that wording for two movies in a row before.)

Star Wars: The Phantom Menace Part 3

Okay, maybe not.

I guessing we can eliminate a few possibilities. In all likelihood, Lucas will not use a "--- of the ---" title again, so we can discard titles like "Rise of The Empire," "Revenge of The Sith," "Fall Of The Jedi," etc, etc. That narrows things down a bit.

Now, maybe there's a formula to the titling (I seriously doubt there is, but just play along):

1. The Phantom Menace / A New Hope
Both serve as specific references to a character and to something of a larger scale.
"The Phantom Menace" is Sidious (Lucas said so), but it also represents the threat to peace in the galaxy.
"A New Hope" is Luke, but it also represents, well, a new hope for the galaxy. The destruction of the Death Star, for example, could be viewed as a new hope.
Notice also that "The Phantom Menace" refers to a bad guy, and "A New Hope" refers to a good guy.

2. Attack of The Clones / The Empire Strikes Back
Both describe actions. Very straightforward titles without much depth or room for analysis. Notice that this time the roles are reversed: the prequel title refers to the good guys (for the time being), and the original trilogy title refers to the bad guys.

3. ??? / Return of The Jedi
ROTJ is a title with many layers of meaning. It refers to Luke returning to confront Vader. It refers to Anakin returning. And it refers to the return of the Jedi order. In all cases, it refers to a good guy. Following this logic, we can assume that the Episode 3 title will have several layers of meaning, but will refer to the dark side (as you can see, whenever a prequel title refers to a good guy, the OT title refers to a bad guy, and vice-versa.)

So what's the title? Beats me. I was just bored at work and felt like over-analyzing things. I'm probably way off anyway.
