I decided to make this thread after watching yet another fantastic film by Hitchcock and deciding that instead of doing a Thriller Thread, Hitchcock deserves a category of his own. Feel free to post reviews or thoughts of any of his other movies.

Although a lot of his films are more famous the one I'm going to mention is the one i watched last night.

Starring: Ingrid Bergman and Gregory Peck

I initially bought this movie because it was out of print and amazon had some copies left so even though I hadn't seen it, i trusted the criterion label and got it, along with Rebecca and Notorious. That was four monthes ago. My little brother wanted to watch a movie last night so i chose something neither of us had seen. I didn't want to read the back and possibly spoil any plot twists so I just put it in.
It started out slowly, and I wasn't too sure what direction it was going in. Ingrid Bergman plays a pysiciatrist (sp.) and Gregory Peck plays the new head of the institution she works at. It's love at first sight for them, and they both can't get enough of each other in the first day. At this point i was thinking, Come on hitchcock, get some suspense going and sure enough, during a casual staff lunch, she says that she was thinking that a pool could be placed in the grounds and draws a shape on the table cloth. Cue the freaky music as Gregory Peck goes into a trance and stares at the design on the table cloth. Right then i was hooked, the first big twist comes shortly after and then the rest of the movie is an extremely suspenseful thrill ride.
The film also features a crazy dream sequence by Salvador Dali that is reminicest of Un Chien Andolou. For anyone who likes Hitchcock, thrillers, or great cinema in general i recommend this.

The best
- Psycho
- The Birds
- The 39 Steps
- Rear Window - "Classic" Hitchcock
- Dial M for Murder - Saw it in 3D, makes it about 10 times better
- Rope
- The Lodger - Very enjoyable for a silent film

Didn't enjoy so much (yes you may flame me)
- North by Northwest
- Vertigo
- Rebecca - Ironically the only one of his films to win Best Picture oscar
- Lifeboat - Too patriotic for me

I actually watched Vertigo for the first time yesterday. Definitely an odd movie, I thought it was alright, not my favorite Hitchcock.

I'm trying to get into Hitchcock movies right now, I've seen a few, next on my list are Rear Window and Rebecca. I really liked Dial M for Murder and North By Northwest. Now I gotta work on the others.

North by Northwest is my favorite movie of his, but if you want to see one of his not outright most famous, but still definetly up there, top 3 i'd say, watch...

This film is just again pure hitchcock genius. Farley Granger plays Guy Hains, a tennis champ who is now dating a senators daughter while awaiting a divorce from his wife. On a train ride he comes across a man, Bruno Anothony, a mama's boy who loathes his father. Guy and him get in a conversation about how they wish the could be rid of their problems. Bruno then proposes an idea, if Guy was to kill Bruno's dad while Bruno was out with friends, no one could pin it on him because he would have the perfect alibi, and in turn Bruno would kill Guy's wife. Guy laughs it off as a joke and agrees, but knowing Hitchcock, mayhem ensues. Definetly one of the best thrillers ever.

It's a lesser Hitchcock movie (and lesser seen), but I'd highly recommend The Trouble with Harry to fans of deadpan dark comedies. It's rather amusing.

They run it on Turner Classic Movies once in a blue moon... Check your local listings.

UPDATE: I just checked TCM's website. The next showing for The Trouble with Harry is January 30 at 4:30 EST. Mark your calenders. ;)
