Ever since about a month after ROTK came out on DVD the regulars of the LOTR forum have been slipping away, me included. I hardly ever come to this forum anymore, just a few times a week to see if there is any new news. I feel like we are nearing the end of the forum, dont you guys (LOTR forum veterans). Its just not the way it used to be. After the ROTK EE comes out, we will surely be taken off, cause talk will have diminished considerably more than now. Why must it end?
Just my thoughts

Oh well, what can ya do? It's not a big deal. It's just a message board, and I'll kind of be glad to see it go.

It seems different to me too, even in the little over a year that I've been here. But how much more can there be to talk about? The ROTK EE for sure, but that will pretty much be it. I'm sure I'll still hang around CS, but not to a great extent.

hmmm. i've really noticed the change. most evident in the Green Dragon. used to be going full blast 24/7, is like 20 pages of stuff overnight for me. now most of hte time there's no one on. but that's what happens. we'll still be here. and some of us won't. but that's what happens. but it certainly will be very different without "The Lord Of The Rings" at the top of the studio tour. very different indeed.

Yeah, this forum was the only reason I registered. I had opinions to share about LOTR, and I never checked out the other forums (until recently). So I think I'll stop by to see what the new movies are about, but like many other Ringers I will likely fade away.

Like it is said in "Into the West" : "Don't say we have come now to the end", but the fact is everyday we get closer to the release of the RoTK EE, we also get closer to the end of this forum. Although I don't talk a lot here (sometimes I don't understand somethings - that's why I always have an english dictionary by my side!) I joined CS foruns because of the lord of the rings. Now I look back and I think I should have shared my opinions on this subject but, as I said, it is difficult for me to express some ideas in english.
But I really hope that this "fellowship" continue together because there are so many things that can be discussed... But I agree have to agree with Glordreen (lotr foruns are not what thay used to be).
"Lay Down
Your sweet and weary head
Night is falling
You have come to journey's end
Sleep now
Dream-of the ones who came before
They are calling
From across a distant shore
Why do you weep?
What are these tears upon your face?
Soon you will see
All of your fears will pass away..."

You're right, Glordreen, the site is changing day by day. I think the premature closing of the Green Dragon thread changed my viewing habits. I used to be in here every day, I hardly ever missed a night. Then the GD suddenly disappeared. Even though it was returned, it made me realize that end was coming. Sooner rather then later. I tried branching out (like the advance war party) trying to find a friendly harbor in hostile territory. There are very few options open for people like us. There are other chat or social threads, but they're not the same. I felt it would be best to gradualy wean myself, so that when the end really *did* come, it wouldn't be such a shock to the system.
I know all good things must come to an end, but it's still gonna be a sad day when that happens.

Frizzo, there are other forums, but to outsiders they can be *very* intimidating. Those sites are filled with people that have long standing histories. They already understand the inside jokes, and they're a little chilly to new comers... And while a lot of the people that frequent the GD thread have been there for a long time, they still warmly welcome any newbie. Look at the thread... Anytime someone new came in, they were made to feel comfortable.
Yes, we're going to have to learn to move on. Some of the people here will be able to make that adjustment, eventually. But there are many others that just wont be able to adapt. They'll fade quietly into the night. And that will be a shame.

The thing is, you're not outsiders...you're all members of these forums. Always have been. There may be different forums, but they're all part of the boards. I'd say that the LOTR forum is the most segregated of them all...we all intermingle amongst the other forums here...because we all have more than one interest...we like several different franchises, different movies..like to talk about music...we don't limit ourselves to one forum. Just because there is a Lord of the Rings forum, or a Harry Potter forum, or whatever, I don't think of them as seperate entities...I think of them all as different sides of the same coin. The way I see it, if you feel segregated from the rest of the boards, for the most part, I'd say it was your own doing...I mean, most of you have never ventured outside the LOTR forums...so if you feel segregated, its your own fault for not attempting to venture out. Thats not meant as an insult...just an observation...you make it sound like someone is dying. Someone isn't dying. I've been here a long time....years...and as much as I love this place...and have known some of the people for quite some time...it is just a message board....if you can't see that...you really do need to take stock of your life....

Frizzo, I get your point, honestly I do. It's up to each person to make a bigger effort. They can't stay hidden in their foxhole, all warm and cozy. For myself, I have ventured out into different arenas. So far, they haven't felt the need to chase me away with flaming torches, so I'll take that as a good sign. But I've never felt as welcomed and at home out there, as I do in here.

If you think it is strange to post in the other forums, try posting in here if you regularly don't. Personally, I could care less about LOTR but whenever I see something that I want to respond to I usually don't because I don't want to get some obscure name wrong and be called an ass.

have you been into the Green Dragon thread? I promise you wouldn't be called names for getting a name or location wrong. I haven't read the books (well, i did read the Hobbit, but that was years and years ago) and they still seem to like me well enough. :)

No. I'm talking about when I have asked a question about something, and I have been completely wrong. I don't watch LOTR nearly enough to remember all the names of locations, monsters, and people.

For me it's been pretty simple...I stumbled on this forum and was charmed by both the subject matter and the participants :) I couldn't spend alot of time, but spent many happy moments in the Dragon and made some good friends.
Now I will briefly address the Mumakhil in the corner...when the savaging of Jedi began I was annoyed, then upset, and finally outraged. I invested more emotionally than is usual for me, and learned from the experience...in the process, I became a "lurker", and spent less and less time doing that...
Now the forum seems "frosty", like a pre-Aragorn Eowyn, though that probably is a projection of my own sense. I have genuine affection for some here, and miss our exchanges. But because this is "only" a message board shouldn't be an excuse for a lack of civility...but I am a part of an older world, and it is passing away.
So, a toast...

There are some funny (slightly crazy) people hanging in HP. :) I do pop in there at least once a day to see if anything new (about the books or movies) has been posted, but I tend to stay out of the "i want to sleep with XXX (fill in the blank)" threads. I completely agree with you there. I felt the same way, and I quickly learned who was and wasnt a genuine and honest person. I realise backstabbing happens in every forum, but this was over the top. My visits slowed way down then, because I just couldnt bear to watch it happen, especially from ones who consider themselves pretty highly around here.

Well guys, I must admit I havent been around the LOTR thread very much, when I joined it was because of LOTR and I quickly became accustomed to the people here - and them to me.
Lately though-partly due to me not being around my pc as much-and differing work shedules- I havent caught up with people as much as I would have liked too.
I must admit this year has been quite a hard year for myself and my family, with numerous upheveals and so-on it was always nice to just log on and chat with people on the other side of the planet(quite literally for me & moose) who could always give advice or information when needed.
Dwindling numbers and the arrival of a fully fledged outbreak of mudslinging made me think twice about this forum now - I used to love the ROTK EE thread but now avoid it like the plague - pages upon pages of nit picking over the smallest detail is not my idea of fun.
I will continue to visit these boards as I, like many othere are first and foremost a film fan who just really likes LOTR, but I love othere films as well and enjoy conversing with like minded people about them.
I f anybody feels inclinded to chat with me via email in the future, just PM me and I will happily give you my email address.
See you all at the closing down party for the Green Dragon - and the front of the line for the Hobbit.

They arent going to make a forum for The Hobbit if that ever comes out will they?
Anyways, ive never really posted here, but i popped in and out, and it will be weird not having this here. It kind of feels like the feeling on christmas day when you opened all of your presents. You have to wait a whole year just for that excitement again. Yes this is different, but it just kind of reminded me of that. It will be a sad day when it comes, but everyone will get over it. If its that sad that a forum is being closed then you need help, no offense or anything, but its just a closed forum. You will get over it.

Ironically, that's what every other forum says about LOTR. Or at least while Slipknot/Tonkpils and a few others were here.
But, anyway, there's nothing to lose in at least trying to join the other forums. You might find some really cool people there. I tend to hang around The Three Broomsticks in HP a lot, and I know that we're usually pretty open to newcomers.
I mean, if these threads were this big when on different forums, imagine if they were all joined to create one huge thread.
Its so strange to see most of the original people from the LOTR forum here in this thread, shows most are still here just not posting.
The EE thread has definatly changed in the last 6 months or so and I miss how it used to be and the people who used to post there.
The end is near and I will miss checking the board everyday. When they finally decide to make The Hobbit I will be back and hopefully the majority of us will be. I`ll also check out other new movies i`m interested in but I cant see any film being as huge to me as LOTR has been these past few years.
Two weeks today for me untill hopefully I get to see the precious lol I cant believe how close we are now. I cant wait but i`ll miss the anticipation!!

ALL LOTR FANS JUST MOVE INTO THE KING KONG FORUMS WHEN THEY CLOSE THIS FORUM AND WE'LL STILL TALK ABOUT LOTR. THE MODS WILL NEVER HAVE TO KNOW ABOUT IT!!!!!!!
Keep it on the down-low though.

good and bad idea - I tend to hang in the Kong forum cos theres not a lot to discuss in the LOTR forums now - in terms of the films anyways
I wanna talk about Kong in the Kong forum
but hey some more guests for casual chat would be great

well come on over DS
Hmm it's gonna be sad to see the LOTR boards go. I too like others in here came to this site solely for LOTR. Let's hope The Hobbit does get made soon.
There's still the Harry Potter thread. I used to frequent there a bit but some of the threads are simply boring. Eg. Emma Watson has a great ass thread or something like that. Still waiting for more info regarding the Half Blood Prince though.
There's still the Star Wars thread I suppose. Still once ROTS is over that may even say it's goodbyes.
There's certainly a lot of good threads in here. I'm definitely not leaving anytime soon.

I suppose I'll be a little sad to see this place go, this was the place that I started out in. But then I branched out to the Community and other forums, and I lost interest in this place. Oh well, not much anyone can do about it.
Everything that has a beginning has an end.

Unfortunatly you are so right!!
LoTR is more that three movies, three books, a couple of characters, new names, new languages.. it's a fellowship :) And fellowships are always together, no matter what happens
