Why is it that almost every horror/thriller these days involves a female protagonist trying to uncover a secret about a ghost? Movies like The Grudge, The Others, The Forgotten, Gothika, and The Ring were good, but the genre needs to take a rest for a while. Don't get me wrong - I will absolutely be in line opening weekend for The Ring Two, The Grudge's inevitable sequel, and the remakes for Dark Water and The Eye. But there needs to be something new.

I don't know I guess most horror movies usually have the female as the hero

Speeshul, I think that they need to calm it down with those type of movies too. I liked The Others and The Grudge but thats about it. I don't think I could handle anymore of these type of movies, but who knows?

You know there are some very psychologically compelling, and somewhat conveluted reasons for this. But they're all just excuse to cover up the fact that like carnage said they have breasts. ;)

Because seeing girls like Watts and Gellar screaming is a bit less scary than Brad Pitt or Morgan Freeman screaming.

Its the age old male female thing. Women listen and are more receptive to things, while us guys are more factual and logical. Thus, the ghosts pick the female to kinda fk with her head or give her dreams which will then make her wanna figure out what is going on. Also you notice in these movies it's always the woman who from the moment she arrives in the house, she has that *Theres something really wrong here* feeling about it. The guy or the husband is always like you just need to settle into the house, get used to it a bit. See shes speaking from feelings, hes speaking from logic. So until the ghost bursts out of the floor, and he sees it, hes not gonna believe the place is haunted like his wife told him 67 times during the course of the movie.
