Word on the Wellingotn grapevine is taht we will see a teaser trailer in March/April 2005.
I thought it would be interseting if people came up with ideas for a teaser tralier (you never know PJ himself might visit this board)
Hers mine: bear in mind none of the dialogue is confirmed you'll just have to pretend to haer Jack Black etc saying it.
Here goes:
Black screen: titles: Universal Pictures presents
Blackscreen: titles: A retelling of the greatest tale ever told
Fade up : huge slow crane shot of New York city (Broadway or Fifth avenue)
Voiceover(Jack Black) "Im gonna make the greatest picture the worlds ever seen"
Cut to shot of Ann Darrow and Carl Denham in diner:
AD: Where will we be going Mr Denham?
CD: On the greatest adventure ever Ms Darrow ... Skull Island
Cut to shot of SS Venture in dock - Adrien Brody on board introduces himself to Ann Darow - the stare at each other for a while.
Blackscreen: titles: An adventure Like never before
Cut to: Wide shot of venture at sea in rough waters
Voiceover(ship captain) "theres a storm coming sir"
Cut to : storm at sea footage
Blackscreen: titles: A land untouched for an age
Cut to : Skull Island wide shot _percussive music begins:Fade to black
Fade up: Ashot of a very large foot print and people looking at it: Fade to black.
Fast percussive music almost tribal sounding
Fast montage of :
natives chanting
AD & CD& JD running thru jungle
The log tumble and guys falling
Very fast shots of planes swooping over New York
MUSIC BUILDS
Jack Driscoll swing on a vine
Guys shooting guns at something!!??
MUSIC REACHES PEAK CUT TO BLACK
Cut to: Shot of Carl Denham behind camera staring up in awe

CUT TO THE VERY QUICK MONEY SHOT:
A native rtunnig towards camera and a huge foot stomps him into the ground

Now thats what I would love to see, how bout you guys?

"A retelling of the greatest story ever told?"
That's gay. KK is nowhere near the greatest story ever told. And with the CG Kong now in effect it'll probably look like crap, too, only making the revamped film harder to bear.

Pretty good fineus, but, my only complaint is:
Blackscreen: titles: An adventure Like never before
Isn't this just a remake?

Im really hoping this film will be cool. If its done right then it will be great, but it can also be really cheesy. Your Teaser description is OK, but its not original enough. We have all seen Teaser's very similar to your description. Other than that, its pretty good.

Isn't this just a remake?
There was the original in the 1930's and someone did a remake in the late 70's or early 80's. So this will be the third King Kong movie.

Well, that's a matter of opinion.
And with the CG Kong now in effect it'll probably look like crap
If Kong turns out half as good as Gollum did then I can easily say it will be far from being "crap"....And chances are good that Weta has advanced since Gollum.

True, but you have to admit that it could look really cheesy, but I have faith in Weta.

Thos titles I put in the blackscreens are what the marketing company will probably put in there - they do not represent my total opinion.
I t is far from the greatest story ever told, but movie marketing companies have a way of making every film out to be "the greatest story ever told"

I like the description. I need a remake, for me the original is just too unbearable to watch. It's so cheesy I laugh my ass off.

Ya the original is pretty funny now, especially the dinosaurs. lol. The teaser should be good if its by the same people who did LOTR, i thought all of those trailers were great.

I think the teaser should just show skull island, maybe a few quick clips of some dinos. It should only show like kongs eyes or head, and then hear him growl, and thats it.

I think fineus fog's description of the trailer was cool. I would change it a little but it was still cool.

They need to do something like they did for Aliens. Just have the sound effects over a blank screen, then bring up the logo at the end. Screaming, gunfire, stomping and stuff, maybe some ape sounds or dinos.
Or just have money shot after money shot of Kong biting peoples heads off!

I like that fade to black idea, they should have when they first meet Kong, like the reaction sounds. Then have Denham say something, and gunshots and screaming. That would be awesome, then at the end:
Peter Jackson's KING KONG

I wish we could have sent ideas when he was making LOTR, so some of the stuff wouldn't have been so messed up.

well, in my opinion ROTK was really messed up. that was a huge gigantic let down for me. The whole movie just seemed so pointless.

Great Teaser. I like how they don't show Kong, but his scream better be louder than hell.

i agree, the never seen bit was a bit cheesey, but otherwise, it would rule. totally.

this movie is going to make a **** load of money even if it sucks cause its made by peter jackson and his last movie took every award. but i hope its good, any you guys going to compare it to the remake of godzilla?
I think it's gonna blow away Godzilla. That movie had potential but it sure was a letdown in the end.
Nice description Fineus. If PJ can pull off a searing scream like those Fell Beasts did then expect Kong's screams to be ferocious as anything.
Raziel

I wont compare Kong to Godzilla. Godzilla did have potential but it was ruined by goofy characters and dialog.
And besides, the remake of Godzilla wasn't even really a "remake"... It was a new story written specifically for the new version. The original B&W version was different. (And frankley, even though the original Godzilla did spawn a series and a fanbase, I didnt thinbk it was that great).
Kong on the other hand is being remade by faithfully sticking closely to the original story. The 76' remake could have been good but once again it was altered and plagued with goofy dialog and characters.
And that's not mentioning the fact that the FX weren't that great (Personally I thought the FX in the 1933 version were better than the 76' remake... They really took a step backwards by opting to go with a guy in a monkey suit. Hell they could have done some wonderful stop-motion FX in 76') and nearly all of the great dinosaur scenes were left out of the film. Only the battle between Kong and a pathetic looking rubber snake was left in.
I would compare the new King Kong to Jurassic Park before I compare it to Godzilla.

I highly doubt that the teaser description is real. Sounds like someone made a beliable fan teaser description from things seen in the production diaries. fineus fog, source please? not trying to be rude or anything :)

I said right from the start it was MY interpretation of what I would put in the trailer or like to see in the trailer, and I just did off the top of my head with out watching the production diaries - I have been a huge fan of PJ since Bad Taste and like to think I could take liberties with his directorial flourishes.
THE SOURCE IS ME - AT NO POINT DID I CLAIM IT TO BE REAL.

This won't definitely won't be like Godzilla if they make King kong animatronic.

King Kong will not be animatronic. It will be with CG, but not crappy Godzilla cg, but wicked good Gollum cg.

Weta will do a very good job on the film. But to be completely honest with you, it's doubtful people are going to be wowed by a giant CG ape and CG dinos. Why? Because people have seen Mighty Joe Young and and Jurassic Park. So it's very doubtful that Weta is going to be able to improve on ILM's CG dinosaurs in Jurassic Park, nor are they going to be able to top Dreamquest's and ILM's CG ape in Might Joe Young. The designs may be different, but I can't see them being better. Even though VFX have advanced some since those films, the effects work is so astonishing in both Mighty Joe Young and Jurassic Park, that you just can't really top it. Not to mention this will be the third Kong film. At least that's my opinion.
I know Jackson loves the original and really wanted to make this film even more than LOTR. But I don't think we really needed another Kong film. I'll be there though.
And chances are good that Weta has advanced since Gollum.
They won't have advanced that much. Any advances are small, incremental advances. Return of the King was only released a little more than a year ago. Noticeable advances occur over periods of 3-5 years, and even that is small. Effects have reached sort of a plateau, and any advances are of the "small details" variety.
Weta will do a good job. I just don't think there is much today from a visual effects standpoint that can really wow audiences.

I dont agree with this at all... First of all, yes we've seen dinos and giant apes already in films like JP and MJY, but we havent seen dinos or giant apes in the kind of action sequences we're going to see in Kong (If you've read the synopsis of the Kong vs the 3 T-rex scene at AICN you'll know what Im talking about.) and we've rarely seen dinos and giant apes in a great story (JP being the exception)
Second, Special effects dont make a good film and never will. I have yet to see a terrible or mediocre film being saved by incredible FX. Look at the 1933 King Kong, it's 100 times better than Godzilla , or the original Mighty Joe Young, also far better than the remake.
All in all, if a film is bad then FX aren't going to save it..If a film is great, then less then incredible FX wont hurt it.
Look at SPiderman.... The one complaint I heard from almost everyone was that the FX weren't that great. But yet the film managed to own at the BO.
So it's very doubtful that Weta is going to be able to improve on ILM's CG dinosaurs in Jurassic Park, nor are they going to be able to top Dreamquest's and ILM's CG ape in Might Joe Young. On the contrary, between the time that FOTR was being made and TTT there were several leaps in technology. As a matter a fact when CG animation began on gollum during the production of FOTR they had to reapply new technology just before the TTT. And personally I think that Gollum is hands down the most realistic CG character ever created.
On a final note, Jackson and Weta FX just recently announced new technology developed just for the Kong film whitch will give every inch of Kong as much realism as possible...... For instance, every single strand of hair on Kong's body will be controlled and able to move independently.
Just remember that when Gollum first appeared on the screen Weta managed to slap ILM across the face. ILM may have a ton of Oscars under their belt but but they also better get their ass in gear .
