Another one of these?

First of all, multiple choice? You asked what people's favourite movie trilogy is and you let them choose a few?

Also, no "other" option? There are lots of trilogies, you gotta have a choice that represents ones you didn't put down.

And last, mostly, THIS HAS BEEN DONE! SO MANY TIMES! :nono:

Since this is multiple choice, I voted for all but the Matrix, haven't seen Revolutions yet. Technically the Harry Potter movies aren't a trilogy but I enjoy them. My all time favourite would be the Star Wars OT.

1-The Lord Of The Rings
2-The Original Star Wars Trilogy

(It is very close between these two but LOTR is the most consistant - TTT was better than FOTR and ROTK was better than TTT, IMHO, while TESB was better than ANH but ROTJ wasn't better than TESB - and has the better acting. Still, it is hard for me to rank SW lower than anything as I fell in love with it before I even knew LOTR existed and it is a great saga.)

3-The Matrix Trilogy
(The original film is the only great film in the trilogy so this trilogy will be knocked down a great deal once the Newer trilogies are complete... That's if their third films are great.)

4-The Terminator Trilogy
5-American Pie Trilogy
6-Austin Powers Trilogy
7-Back To The Future Trilogy
8-Jurassic Park Trilogy
(This doesn't even deserve to be here as JP3 sucked but I'm going to Rank every complete trilogy I've seen.)

New Trilogies That I Want To Include In The Rankings But Can't As They Are Not Completed Yet

1-The Star Wars Prequel Trilogy(so far)
2-The X-Men Trilogy(so far)
3-The Spider-Man Trilogy(so far)

Star Wars all the way. Lord of the Rings is soooo overrated. I can't stand hobbits being the star of an epic movie, I'm supposed to be rooting for those little guys to throw a ring in a volcano? pff, no thanks, I'd rather root for Luke Skywalker to save the entire galaxy. I'm happy the popularity of LOTR has diminished a lot recently since the trilogy is over and nobody has nothing to look forward to other than the ROTK extended dvd, thats the problem with having movies come out 3 yrs in a row, after its all over so quickly, people won't like these movies as much. There definitely wasn't the great humor and chemistry like Han, Chewie, Luke and Leia had, if you want to call that whole stupid dwarf tossing thing good chemistry, then so be it. Star Wars has the greatest cinematic villain of all time, Darth Vader, and the new Episode 3 teaser just proved how badass he still is, I know you all got shivers when you saw him again. Can't forget other great villains like the Emperor, Darth Maul and Boba Fett. While LOTR on the other hand has Sauron, the main villain that has 5 minutes of screen time of actually doing something instead of being a damn eye for the other 9 and a half hours of the trilogy, and Saruman, whos wasnt considered important enough to be in ROTK, ha, well there u go with the villains. Better music? John Williams wins hands down, he's the master of cinema scores. So basically Star Wars wins hands down, whos with me?

How come people keep seperating the 'original' Star Wars trilogy and the Prequel trilogy?

Star Wars is not a trilogy anymore, and if GL and SW fans are to be believed then GL always wanted to make more than just 3 films. Just because people are generally dissatisfied with the PT (understandably so) doesn't simply mean you can wipe it away and divide the films into 2 groups.

I always liked the First Triumvirate the best.

The Second Triumvirate was a letdown... mainly because Lepidus and Marc Antony were giant pusses.

Well I voted for; The Matrix, Back to the future, and Indiana Jones since these are the only actual trilogies.

Harry Potter is a 7 movie series (of which 3 have been released) and Star Wars is a 6 movie series (separated into 2 trilogies).

LotR is not a trilogy but one story separated into 3 movies.

Finally someone who thinks like me...almost. I see the Matrix as two films...1, The Matrix...2, The Matrix Reloaded/Revolutions. Technically they are three films, but since the last two were split, I consider the series a duality or whatever the term would be, which is a continuous theme throughout the series.

LotR IS a trilogy. If it wasn't there would have been only 1 book, not 3.

And if LotR isn't a triolgy, as you say, because it's one big story separated in 3 movies, what is Matrix then?

See above for my opinions regarding The Matrix if you want.

Since Fellowship Of The Ring has no end, The Two Towers has no beginning or end, and Return Of The King has no beginning, then each part cannot be considered standalone, and therefore negates the definition of a trilogy.

"A series of three dramas which, although each of them is in one sense complete, have a close mutual relation"

In fact, if you want to get a better and more complete understanding of the ideas involved in a trilogy, watch Scream 3. :D

hes actually right, although everyone is going to call it a trilogy. the books were initially to all be one book anyway. So...

LotR was written to be one book and not 3. It was separated before the initial publication, mostly due to length and cost to print/purchase. And if you have read LotR you would see that it is 6 books not 3, there are 2 books in each part.

As for Matrix the first one stands alone and dosen't need the other 2... and IMO is harmed by the other 2. Thinking about it more I would have to agree with Boiiinng about the sequels.... although I do feel alot of the plot from Matrix2 is resolved in that movie.

I would agree. You really can't compare the achievements of someone like Octavian to his uncle, Julius. Pompey may have been pwned by Caesar, but against anyone in the Second, I think he'd rule. Crassus, well he was cool, he took on Spartacus and all, but I'll just leave him be.

Not to start a huge discussion, but they wasnt cut to 3 because of costs...But because they feared people wouldnt buy it if it was so huuuuuge (you know over 1000 pages!).

And the term "book" in the case of book 1-6 is not the same as the term "book" in the case of book 1-3 if you know what i mean.

When the term "book" is used about 1-6 its more of a meaning like "part". Not too sure how to explain it. We have the same words in norwegian for "book" and "book" in that case, but i'm not so sure how to explain it in english.

But the story isnt devided into 6 books. Its 3 books, each in 2 parts (called books) - confusing? yes :)

I'd have to check my one-volume edition at home, cuz I'm at work now, but I believe the novel is broken down into:

Book I
Book II
Book III
Book IV
Book V
Book VI

As you describe,it would be:

Fellowship Of The Ring
Book I
Book II

Two Towers
Book I
Book II

Return Of The King
Book I
Book II

I don't think each book had its own title, but they did have their own respected storylines.
