weel we have an under rated actors thread why not an over rated acotrs thread. u know what im talking about. the actors who are in so many movies but they are terrible actors or bad and they ruin good movies. like affleck in daredevil. i mean most of em are just on there cuz the girls will love them and they want to sell tickets and they dont care if u leave cuz they've already got ur money.

Although he's not overrated, I really hated the people who thought Viggo Mortensen was the greatest actor ever after LOTR came out.
Overrated? Hmmmmmmmm
Not to be racist, but pretty much any black comedian turned actor EXCEPT Eddie Murphy.

Adam Sandler...how many times can he play the same character?
Vin Diesel...can't deliver a line to save his life.

Vin Diesel
Keanu Reeves (After The Matrix people think he can act since he played a stiff and clueless character so well, it's not acting ;) )
Ben Affleck
Cameron Diaz
Halle Berry
I think Brad Pitt is a pretty good actor who picks his movies very well. Haven't you seen Fight Club, Se7en, or Troy? He's really good!

I've felt that Kevin Spacey's a bit overrated. Granted, he's a terrfic talent but it seems like 70% of the time he's playing the same sarcastic a-hole.

Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise are awesome IMO.

He was good in Break Point, but his role was very simple. The Matrix was ok because sorry, but his character had no depth.
It's a sad day when we start considering Keanu Reeves an overrated actor.

Tom Cruise over-rated? The dude is practically seen as just a pretty boy by most people but is one of the most talented actors around at the moment. Yes his earlier work was nothing to shine about (even though I do love Top Gun) but his later work is very impressive.
Born on the 4th July
Magnolia
Jerry Maguire
Rain Man
The Last Samurai
Minority Report
(have yet to see Collateral but from what I have heard he is great in that too)
Because he is biggest movie star in Hollywood most people wont look past the looks to see that he infact a great actor. He should have won an Oscar already with the three performances that were nominated

I say he is overratted because out of these movies which one will be in the top hundred films of all time, and yet he is still the highest paid actor in hollywood.

I say he is overratted because out of these movies which one will be in the top hundred films of all time, and yet he is still the highest paid actor in hollywood. That still has nothing to do with his acting skills though. Studios will pay whatever they want for an actor. If Cameron Diaz's acting is worth anything near $20 mill, then the world's gone to hell.

Another reason why he is an overrated actor IMO is that he is always playing the same type of roles

Tom Cruise - The only movie he was really good in was was Magnolia (havnt seen born of the 4th of July or his earlier stuff though). And the only reason he is biggest movie star is because he only picks movies that the average movie goer will enjoy and he is always portrayed as a "nice guy" (which people like).
Orlando Bloom - I dont even need to say why
Catherine Zeta-Jones - She is only good when she plays a b****
Keanu Reeves - Again i dont even need to say anythinghttp://img64.photobucket.com/albums/v195/Snazbrak/Family%20Guy/familyguy6.gif

I feel like defending Cruise here, especially after freshly saw his top-notch performance in Collateral.

:applaud: Totally agree.

Studio paid him to bring in the MONEY. And he does it consistantly than anyone working right now..if not ever. So yes, he has earned his place as the highest paid actor. Not overrrated here.

umm...Collateral. You don't need to actually see the film to know that he plays a bad guy there. Also, I have to respectably disagree with you about him only picking movies that the general audience will enjoy. I see the opposite actually. Cruise is one of a very few risk-taker movie stars these days. Do you really think Eyes Wide Shut, Vanilla Sky, Magnolia, and Collateral appeal to the masses? The only generally appealing films of his for the past decade were really the Mission Impossible films. He has more risky films than typical blockbusters for quite sometimes now.
IMO,
Cruise is UNDERrated as an actor.
He is NOT OVERrated as a box office star. He earns this title.

Not such a nice guy in Interview with the VAmpire either which I personally think is one of his best performances as an actor.

Kevin Spacey is probably the best natural actor today by what I mean is he's a great actor and he never seems to be acting in a film it seems he's that character in real life in the film.
Will Smith- A average actor at best. his best movie was enemy of the state in which Gene Hackman and Jon Voight made the film great.
Jack Nicholson and George Clooney are a little overrated. Clooney in terms of the Batman movie was awful and some of Nicholson performances have been bad.

dont agree with the nicholson comment.
Tom Cruise in my opinion, is one of the most UNDERrated actors. Like what was said above, that list of movies (add top gun) should prove it. See collateral. See Jerry Maguire, Born on the 4th...etc. People are always talking about how the guy can't act. Yet, he always ends up in excellent movies. The guy CAN act, he's been screwed out of countless oscars.
oh, and orlando bloom is very overrated(although i liked him as legolas.) Sucked in POTC and especially Troy.

I don't see how Legolas could have been played badly, he had like four lines.

Viggo has never got fantastic roles.
Viggo isn't that great, either. He's incredibly dry and flat as an actor. I still wish Daniel Day-Lewis had taken the role as Aragorn. He would've been so much better.
Someone mentioned Adam Sandler earlier. I would honestly consider him to be underrated, largely due to the roles he constantly plays. He's only really been given one shot at a serious performance (Punch-Drunk Love) and he excelled in that film. I would love it if a studio would start pitching better roles for Sandler to play. The character pattern he's fallen into got trite somewhere around The Waterboy.
Orlando Bloom gets parts because he draws teenage girls... I wouldn't consider that overrated. I don't recall anyone labeling him as a great actor.
I've been a fan of Cruise and Spacey for a while, and I can think of very few instances in which they failed to deliver wonderful performances (especially in their more serious roles). They deserve the credit they receive.

I thought that Viggo played the role better than anyone could. I dont think anyone would have been better for the part.

Orlando Bloom
I still can't believe he has an SAG, BFCA and NBR award.... all for ensemble performances of course, but still... it's shocking. :P
I disagree with the comments that Nicholson and Cruise are overrated as well.
Another reason why he is an overrated actor IMO is that he is always playing the same type of roles
A semi-gang member, hitman, race car driver, military advisor turned samurai, sports agent, navy lawyer, future cop, vampire, agent, cowboy (small part in Young Guns), Vietnam War vet, bartender, doctor, pool shark, star high school football player, and fighter pilot.
Yep, this reeks of playing the same type of roles...........

Cruise was great in Collatoral. His range is limited, but he's still a good actor.
Bloom is not a very good actor, but the girls squeal for him, so they'll keep putting him in movies.
Viggo will only be known for LOTR.
Vin Diesel is so terrible, I can't even consider him an actor.

Al Pacino is overrated. Yes he is a good actor, who has had memorable(Scarface) and even great performances(Godfather), but he is not among the five best of his generation, yet there are many who might try to tell you that he is the best actor ever. Most of the time he's just a blowhard
Good call on Pacino, I think he's a good actor, but he's been picking some really awful roles the past few years. I think directors aproach him as "Pacino", so they don't push him any more, and as a result he isn't as good as he could be. I think the same thing happened with Brando and DeNiro, ironically enough. Pacino was pretty impressive in 'Angels in America' though...
Woodie Allen (as an actor).
