It has been rumored for awhile now that there is going to be a TV series that will take place in between episode III and IV. I am hoping like hell that it isn't anime and that it doesn't suck. Personally I think a TV series could do well if produced properly (and Lucas gets out of the way with regards to writing it). What do you think?

I think that a live action series could do just fine. The newest couple of star trek series have had very good special effects and space battles. Lucas must stay the hell away though.

I love how the man responsible for the Star Wars Saga is the one guy fans despise. It's priceless.

There were rumors at one time of the live action series being based on Boba Fett.
A live action series would be hard to compete with the action/effects of the movies though.
I'll wait and see before I pass any judgements.

If there was a TV show, I bet everytime we saw a particular episode in rerun, Lucas will have "improved" it..so everytime we see an episode, its completely different.

hahahaa....so true Frizzo.

Lucas is senile to say the least.

I would want Lucas to be involved somehow. Maybe he can come up with the plot ideas, and let someone else write the teleplays for it. I just hope it remains true to the feel of Star Wars, not like when he made The Young Indiana Jones and apparently forgot who Indiana Jones was.

Add Indiana Jones to that as well, since he created it. If anything, these people should get down on their knees and thank him for giving fans these two trilogies.

Lucas is senile to say the least.

Actually, the SW fans are far more senile and stupid then Lucas. Look no further than an forum on the internet, you'll find masses of Star Wars fans whining like babies over some filmmaker they don't even know.

Lucas is far more coherent that the pathetic SW fanbase is. I have to include myself in that fanbase, unfortunately.

That's a shame because the producers are really intent on making it "suck".

As long as it lasts a normal length like 30min - 1hour I'll be happy. Clone Wars was good but too short and all the commentaries on them were about how they had to cut action to make it fit the time.

I think the problem that Episode III is going to have is that Lucas set himself up all wrong in that he has to pack wwwaaaayyyyyy too much stuff into one film to properly tie them all together. After Episode II I just kept thinking that they didn't take the story far enough. This could be an opportunity to tie some pieces together and make the flow fit better. Maybe they could include an episode about Gungan hunting or something, that would be cool.

I'd like to see a series made but with a definite story arc to it that ends after one season. I don't want week after week seeing C3PO or Yoda in another wacky adventure. There should be a purpose to the series, somewhere where it's heading.

I dont think the Series should tie-in to the movies at all. In Fact I am hoping for a series that takes place between 3 and 4 just for the simple fact that we can see Darth Vader in the Suit, in Action against Surviving Jedi and the Rebels. I think each Episode should have its own Storyline and have a 1 Hr running time with the plot being completed during each show. Once a season they could do a "to be Continued" Show that has two or three parts. Each show also needs to start with the STAR WARS flowing up the screen with a brief explantion following just like the movies do. In my view Season one could go as follows........

Dawn of a Empire Series.........first episode.....The Clone Wars have ended and the Jedi knights are now outlaws form justice and as a small group of Jedi hide on a hidden World, little do they know that Darth Vader has begun his program of extermination and they are next on his hit-list.

Season 1 could take us though the days of the Dawn of the Empire and show us how Darth Vader destoryed the Jedi, we should get cameo's by Yoda and Obi-Wan (If they could get Ewan to do it) and detail the Rise of the Empire and the beginning's of the Rebel Allinance.

Season 2 would focus on Shadows of the Empire and feature Boba Fett, other Bounty Hunters, the Hutts and of Course the Criminal underworld lead by Xizor. Vader would also have a major role as well. Here we should see a young Han Solo and Lando Calrissien make there debut. It would focus on Smuggling, cutthroat underhanded dealing's, bounties, Gang-Wars, and Illegal Imperial takeover's etc....etc.

Season Three would be A Empire Divided and focus on the War between the Rebellion and the Galactic Empire and of Course Vader would be the major player along with Sidious, and all the leaders of the Rebels.

I think it should be loosely based on the movies (i.e. there is the rebel faction and the empire, etc.) but I think they should deffinetely keep lightsaber battles and all the good stuff. Hopefully the CGI won't look like some of the really crappy sci-fi shows out currently. Maybe eventually they can make a whole different movie spin off of the series, kinda like Star Trek did. :)

I think It could be based on the EU..maybe the jedi academy trilogy but far beyond the timeline of the books

I want Knights of the Old Republic or Knights of the New Republic. Nothing to do with the movies, either years before them all or years after them all.

I don't really want to see anything in between Episodes III and IV, this would depend on what happens in ROTS though. I would like to see the Jedi purge but that could get tedious if the show was just about that and the Emperor's reign growing. Obi-wan and Yoda should be left out if the series takes place between the movies and I don't want to see anything that happens between TPM and AOTC.

I would like to see the rebuilding of the Jedi Order, long after ROTJ and Mark Hamill could reprise his role as an aging Luke. Or even a series about ancient Jedi's (I haven't read any of the EU books). I'd like the show to run no more than 13 episodes per season and be done cliffhanger style, except the ending and each season should start with the opening crawl like the movies.

I think Star Wars belongs on the big screen, and Lucas should put an end to this idea completely. I'll definitely watch, but I don't see the point. Do the clone wars animated stuff. Even doing a CG miniseries would be great. But forget the live action stuff. You can't do Star Wars just on a TV screen with a TV size budget. It's an entirely different beast from Star Trek, Farscape, etc.

Yeah, but remember the production values he put into Young Indiana Jones? Those were amazing. Of course, the stories were incredibly dull (ESPECIALLY since they were supposed to be Indiana Jones), but there's no denying that they looked fantastic. If he puts that much effort into a SW TV series, but has some decent stories, it could be really good.

It's not rumoured anymore.

The live action TV series has been comfirmed for release during 2006, with Hasbro comfirming they are going to release a toy line for the first season. Activision also comfirmed they have plan to make video games for the upcoming series.

I assume it's going to be filmed on location, during 2005, and be set between Episode III and IV.

Naturally, Fox would be the most likely network to host the show, but it's possible that Disney will broadcast the programme on ABC.

At comic-con when somone during the QnA asked about possible episodes 7,8,9, Steve Sansweet responded by saying there will be no more films and that Star wars "Will live on through dvd and videos, books and perhaps television". Now that could mean that just having the star wars films being shown on TV or an actual series.

True, but you're not taking into account that both Hasbro and Activision have comfirmed that they are making products for a live action TV programme, released during 2006.

True, but Indiana Jones is also an entirely different beast, requiring few effects. The effects and battle sequences in Star Wars are incredibly expensive to do and even hard to create. The budget is way too small to do it the kind of justice it deserves.

Source please! I have not seen anywhere where they confirmed that it was a live action TV series, only that there would be some kind of show, be it animated, CG, or mini-series. I doubt Hasbro is in the know, because at this point, Lucasfilm doesn't seem entirely sure what they're going to do.

Of course, a TV version of SW would be scaled down, perhaps focusing on smaller, more personal matters, rather than on huge battles like the one on Geonosis.

Also, remember that Young Indiana Jones was when Lucas first realized the ability to create large CGI crowds (many of the street scenes really included just a handful of real-life extras, the rest were done digitally to make the areas look crowded. He even used this technique for a large-scale dance sequence, and the audience couldn't tell.) And that was about ten years ago, so with all of the advances in CGI, I don't think it would be out of the question to make a pretty decent SW TV series these days (again, provided that they keep the focus on a smaller scale than the movies.)

If there is in fact a tv series it probably wouldn't be difficult to get a lot or most of the actors in Episode III. Still, I'm skeptical about a TV series. I'm still holding out hope that there will be Episodes 7 - 9. Lucas says he won't do them but that doesn't mean someone else can't.

Most of the actors in Episode III die in the film, and as it's most likely going to feature Darth Vader, it's easily done with an extra, and voice provided by Jones or a voice-actor.

It'd be a new character they'd focus on, and it'd be a new plot, similar to how KOTOR is made, making more use of character development with some action. ILM would easily be able to provide special effects, so it's not difficult their either.

And the only movie actors that you can really have in the show, if any, would be Ian McDarmid, Jimmy Smits, Antony Daniels and a few of the Jedi extras.

If there is a TV show there better be lightsabers and they better not look cheesy. That would totally rock if they could pull it off and not have it look like some crappy Farscape episode or something.

Im not sure about placing the series between episodes three and four since the SW movies revolve around the skywalker family and at this point Anakin is Vader and Luke and Leia are children. Personally i think it would be wiser to focus on the post ROTJ universe with the Jedi Academy. THe young Jedi trainees would attract the teen audience and we could see the Luke-Mara Jade romance unfold;)

I would like to see that as well, my only problem is how Episode III is going to turn out. When I saw Episode II, I was expecting the story to move further into what is going to happen than it did. I felt like after I left that Lucas backed himself into a corner with Episode III because now he has so much to pack into one movie. Vader Emerges, the Jedi are wiped out, The Empire takes over, etc., etc.. It's just way too much to pack effectively into a 2-3 hour movie. I think if they go ahead with the TV series between EIII and EIV, than maybe they can fill in some gaps that I can almost promise will be left between EIII and EIV.

I wouldn't be surprised if most of the Jedi's are wiped out offscreen and before Vader makes his first appearance. He's only supposed to be in the movie for about 10 mins. I'd like to see the series take place post ROTJ.

Why would you want more of what we've seen in the movies? Why not go back before the galactic empire when the Sith and Jedi equalled in numbers. I'm talking about an Exar Kun saga. Think about it a show about of who was perhaps the greatest Dark Lord to come to power and his fall with Ulic Qel Droma. It would be awesome to see him fight.

Crow T. Robot
09-15-2004, 01:38 AM
that would seem quite expensive. Might make a good action cartoon though. I still like my Teen-angst Jedi Academy idea best though. WHo do you think would play Mara Jade?

LordDarthRevan

Sure it may be expensive to you but George Lucas has more than enough money plus he'd easily make it all back and then some as it aires on tv unless someone makes it into some kiddy crap like The Phantom Menace.

Over at theforce.net, there's a story where Lucas says he's going to let other people run the TV show as the novels and comics are done. New people could bring in fresh ideas and new perspectives on the SW universe. This series could turn out to be interesting.

I think a Boba Fett show would work great. It would have him hunting the last of the Jedi, beginning his profession as a bounty hunter, avenging his fathers death etc. Throw in a cast of regular characters, such as his bounty employer, like that Toydarian in the bounty hunter game and maybe a love interest? Maybe not.. but you see what I'm getting at.

If not that, I think a show called 'Young Sabers' which charts the training of a teenage Anakin and his relationship with fellow padawans. That would make for an interesting show.

I wouldn't mind seeing a spinoff where they took the story completely away from the Empire and did something like KOTOR the game. I just hope they finally realize that Star Wars needs some good actors for a change.
