I think there's a script floating around somewhere or that they are trying to write one, but overall the film hasn't been confirmed or denied as happening.

If Englund was unable or uninterested in doing a prequel they would never even consider making it. Robert Englund is Freddy Krueger. Nobody else could ever come close to him.

Yeah we know who's going to become Darth Vader as well in the next Star Wars Prequels but we still want to see that.
